Asking how many sets someone has left is a completely fair question. Asking
thirty seconds after they sat down is a war crime.
The actual etiquette, since half the people who do this are just nervous and
guessing: ask between sets and never mid set, use "mind if I work in" because
it does not ask them to leave, and reset the weight when you are done. If they
say four sets, that is about ten minutes. Go do something else and come back.
And if they genuinely just sat down, let them have it.
I lost this one. She got the machine.

The best program is the one you will actually do.
That sounds like a motivational poster, but it is the most practical thing in fitness. Adherence, meaning whether you keep turning up, is the strongest predictor of whether any program produces results. It beats the split, the exercise selection, and every argument on the internet about rep ranges.
Which means the perfect plan you quit in week three loses to the good enough plan you keep for two years. Every time. It is not close.
So aim for around 80 percent consistency rather than 100 percent perfection. Hitting four sessions out of five, most weeks, for a very long time, is what actually changes a body.
The trap is not the missed session. Missing Tuesday does not erase Monday. The damage is deciding the week is ruined and writing off the other four sessions to go with it, and then deciding the month is ruined, and then starting again in January.
Miss one, start the next. That is the entire skill.
What helps is not more willpower, it is better systems. Track it, so progress is something you can see rather than something you have to remember. Keep a streak going, because once one exists you do not want to break it. Make sessions small enough that you can say yes to them on a bad day. And count the small wins, because they are still wins.
That is the honest reason BryksBuilt turns training into XP and streaks. Not as a gimmick. Because the thing that beats people is not the workout, it is the turning up.

She asked a genuine form question and I gave the worst possible answer.
The real one, for anyone who wants it: on an incline dumbbell press your hands
go just outside shoulder width with your wrists stacked over your elbows. Not
wherever feels comfortable. Comfortable is usually flared elbows and a sore
shoulder six weeks later.
Training with your partner genuinely works, though not because of motivation.
It works because you stop deciding whether to go. Someone else already decided
and is waiting at the door.
The trade off is that roughly one session in four turns into whatever this was.

Everyone counts protein. Almost nobody counts fibre.
It is the nutrient with no marketing budget. There is no fibre shake, no fibre influencer, no fibre challenge on the internet. So most people quietly eat about half of what they need and never think about it once.
The target is 25 grams a day for women and 38 for men. Most people land somewhere near half of that.
Here is where it actually is, using USDA values. One cup of cooked lentils is about 16 grams, which is most of a day in a single bowl. Two tablespoons of chia seeds is 10 grams, and so is a whole avocado. A cup of raspberries is 8. A pear with the skin left on is 6. A cup of oats is 4.
Three things explain where it keeps going.
Processing takes it out. Refining grain strips the fibre first, and that is most of the real difference between the white version of something and the brown one.
Juicing leaves it behind. The fibre stays in the pulp, so what ends up in the glass is the sugar without the part that used to slow it down.
And the skin is the point. Peeling fruit and vegetables removes a genuine share of the fibre before the food ever reaches the plate.
The fix is not a new diet. Swap white rice for lentils or brown rice some of the time. Eat the orange instead of drinking it. Stop peeling things that did not need peeling.

Two ingredients and 30g of protein, in about forty seconds.
Fill a tall glass with ice. Fill it most of the way with iced coffee or cold
brew. Top it with an Alani Nu protein shake. Stir. Drink.
The reason this works better than stirring protein powder into coffee: powder
clumps as soon as it hits cold liquid and goes gritty. A ready to drink shake
is already dissolved, so it behaves like creamer.
Roughly two thirds coffee to one third shake, and use unsweetened coffee,
because the shake is already sweet.
It tastes like a vanilla latte that happens to be carrying 30g of protein,
which is a much better start to the day than the seven dollar version.

Cardio or weights for fat loss? The honest answer is that you are asking the wrong question.
Fat loss comes from a calorie deficit. Cardio helps build one, weights help build one, and neither of them outruns what is happening in the kitchen. So the first decision is not which machine to use, it is whether the deficit exists at all.
Once it does, the two do genuinely different jobs.
Weights protect your muscle. In a deficit your body is perfectly willing to break down muscle alongside fat, and resistance training is the signal that tells it not to. That is the difference between finishing a cut smaller and stronger, or just smaller.
Cardio is a calorie burn tool and a heart health tool. It is not better or worse than lifting. It is a different job, and treating it as the whole plan is why so many people spend months on a treadmill and end up looking like a slightly smaller version of where they started.
And while nobody talks about it, daily steps often add up to more than the workout does.
So the setup that works is all four at once. A deficit you can actually live with, roughly 300 to 500 calories below maintenance. Enough protein. Lifting the whole way through, not just when bulking. And steps.
One more thing, since it stops a lot of women from touching a barbell at all: lifting is not going to make you bulky. Building visible muscle is slow, deliberate and genuinely hard. Nobody has ever done it by accident.

14g of protein and 240 calories, and it genuinely does not taste like a protein
bar.
Dabble protein donuts, churro cheesecake flavour. Gluten free.
I was testing for one thing: the aftertaste. Nearly every protein dessert
tastes fine for two seconds and then the protein shows up at the back of your
throat. This one never did it. The donut is soft rather than dry, and the
topping is creamy rather than chalky, which is the part most of them get wrong.
Taste 8.9 out of 10. Calories and protein 10 out of 10.
For 240 calories, that is a very reasonable trade for something sweet at the
end of the day.

One cup of granola is about 500 calories.
There is a whole category of food that gets a free pass because it is genuinely good for you. Olive oil, avocado, peanut butter, granola, nuts, dried fruit. Nobody counts any of it, because it does not feel like the kind of food you are supposed to count.
Here is roughly what these cost, using USDA values. Two tablespoons of peanut butter is 190 calories. One avocado is 240. One tablespoon of olive oil is 120. A cup of granola is around 500. Two tablespoons of creamy dressing is 130, and a small box of raisins is another 130.
Three things make it sneak up on people.
Fat is the dense one. It carries more than twice the calories of protein or carbs gram for gram, and healthy fat is no exception to that. Olive oil is excellent for you and it is still the most calorie dense thing in most kitchens.
Nobody pours a serving. The number printed on the granola box assumes a portion that almost nobody actually pours, and the gap between the label serving and the real bowl is usually double.
And dried means concentrated. Take the water out of fruit and the calories stay behind in something a quarter of the size. That is why a handful of raisins and a bowl of grapes feel similar and are not.
None of this is a reason to avoid any of these foods. They are good food. The fix is not a ban list, it is a measuring spoon. Measure the oil instead of free pouring it. Put granola on top of yogurt instead of making it the whole bowl. Eat the grapes when you were reaching for raisins.
Keep the food. Lose the guesswork.

You do not build muscle in the gym.
The gym is where you damage it. The building happens afterwards, and most of that happens while you are asleep. Which means sleep is not the thing you do when the real work is finished. It is where a large part of the real work actually gets done.
The Sleep Foundation recommendation for adults is 7 to 9 hours a night. That number does not quietly come down because you are busy, or because you have got used to less.
Here is what happens when you run short. Hunger hormones climb, so you eat more without deciding to. Training output drops, so every set is a little worse than the one you were capable of. Recovery slows, so yesterday's session is still sitting on you today. And muscle repair takes the hit, which was the entire reason you went to the gym in the first place.
So training hard on 5 hours is not discipline. It is paying for a gym membership and then cancelling most of the results yourself.
Three fixes, none of which cost anything. Get up at the same time every day, weekends included, because a consistent wake time does more than a consistent bedtime. Have your last coffee before 2pm, because caffeine hangs around far longer than the alert feeling does. And put your phone somewhere you have to physically stand up to reach.
Nobody posts about their eight hours the way they post about a personal record. It is still the highest return thing most people are not doing.

Every protein source in my fridge.
Chicken, pork, salmon, shrimp, canned tuna, turkey bacon, lean steak. That is
the whole list. There is no secret eighth one.
Two of them are jokes. One is a cat named Tuna. The other is my son, who is not
a viable protein source yet but is gaining weight faster than anyone else in
this video.
My brother held that sign for the entire shoot and never said a word.
