πŸ”₯ Testing out a new cooking pot over the fire πŸ”₯ using 2 "V" hook branches, fitted together with stake notches and then lashed. Dangling right over the hot coals πŸ”ͺ πŸ”₯ 🌳 β›Ί This was part of day 3 with a group of homeschooling families. Today's main focus was cooking set ups, wet weather fires, ways of finding and purifying water, and twisting up some plant fibre cordage.

The ''pocket dump''. πŸ”₯ Flame thrower fire starter sunscreen 🌞 is one of the uses we discovered during a survival challenge where I get the participants to dump everything out of their pockets and bags πŸŽ’ and we see what we have to work with and how it can be applied to a survival situation. πŸ†’οΈ These sessions are always fun and creative. From burning their vegetable oil soaked corn chips 🍟 from there lunch as fire starters πŸ”₯ to talking about cutting open there stuff animals 🧸 to make warm slippers or gloves, we find what we need to take care of our basic survival needs. πŸ’§ πŸ”₯ β›Ί

πŸ”₯ The tug of war team friction fire! This is a good intro for a group of kids to friction fire. I like a spindle length just under the knees so you can brace against your shins while standing and a big block of fat wood for a two handed grip on the hand hold.

Water purification. πŸ”₯πŸ’§ We dug a hole in the dirt, lined it with a plastic bag, added the water to be purified, used split stick tongs to drop red hot rocks in from our fire till we brought the water to a boil for a few minutes. We used dandelion stems as straws to drink from the hole!

Water proof jackets or hats can be used too. Water can be transported with another bag or container or soaked up in bandana and wrung out. Lots of options to apply this technique.

πŸ”₯ πŸ– I was to asked to supply the fresh protein for a wild food show the was being filmed here in metchosin. They wanted an ''invasive'' species and they had already done an episode with Rabbits. So Grey Squirrel was the target. Set up a couple Squirrel poles but ended up getting this one with a pellet gun in a stand of hazel trees.

🐻 πŸ”ͺ πŸ”₯ Finally got some work in on the bear hide this weekend. Hopefully the hair won't end up slipping because of going in and out of the freezer a bunch of times. So some final fleshing and a couping saltings, a salt bath, more scraping if needed, and dawn bath, braining and smoking is the plan at the moment.
