UBCM will be holding a webinar on April 3, 2024, 1–3 pm, to share up-to-date hazard projections for this spring and summer, review the hazard assessment and mitigation resources currently available to communities, and provide an update on Provincial emergency preparedness initiatives.

This webinar will provide an opportunity for UBCM members to learn more about the current seasonal weather forecast; and the measures being taken to assess and manage wildfire, drought, flooding and extreme heat. Information will also be provided regarding the Provincial Disaster and Climate Risk and Resilience Assessment, and local government efforts to assess, mitigate and prepare for natural hazards.

Excited about bringing you the LGLA Leadership Forum in 10 days! The annual LGLA Leadership Forum will be held at the Radisson Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, from Wednesday noon to Friday noon, January 31, February 1&2, 2024.
The event follows on the heels of the UBCM-organized EA Directors’ Forum which will be held at the same location January 30/31, 2024.

In the most recent issue of UBCM Compass, there is an important notice re the Province scheduling a series of webinars in January for local government staff to support implementation of Bills 44 (small scale multi-unit housing, planning reforms), 46 (development finance), and 47 (transit-oriented areas). Each webinar will include a presentation of technical details and legislative requirements and provide an opportunity to ask questions of subject matter experts.

In the upcoming LGLA Forum (January 31-Feb 2), we will be hosting a session entitled: “On The Ground”, Making Sense of Current Provincial Legislation", with Bill Buholzer of Young Anderson. The session will focus on some key aspects of this legislative program, put in context, and consider some of the principal impacts on the administrative and legislative agendas of local governments for 2024 and beyond.
