Here’s the problem: most people forget CPR skills within a year. The 2024 ILCOR review suggests: Short, frequent refreshers beat a single long class; Video or app reminders help keep skills sharp; and Hands-on practice still trumps online-only learning. If you’ve taken CPR before, don’t wait years to refresh. A quick practice session can reset your confidence.

CPR isn’t the same for everyone. For infants and kids, most cardiac arrests start with breathing problems, so rescue breaths matter. Push 1.5–2 inches deep at 100–120 per minute. Ratio is 30:2 with one rescuer or 15:2 with two. For newborns, focus on breathing first—dry, warm, and stimulate. If heart rate is under 100, ventilate. If it stays under 60 after 30 seconds, start compressions at a 3:1 ratio. Adults can often get hands-only CPR, but kids need oxygen. Knowing the difference saves lives.

Here’s something most people don’t realize: not all CPR is created equal. Push too shallow, and the heart doesn’t pump enough blood. Push too deep or too fast, and you can tire out quickly and lose quality. The science shows there’s a sweet spot—and it makes a life-or-death difference.

Picture this. Someone collapses in front of you—your heart races. You know calling 911 is the right move—but then what? Most people freeze. They panic, or they worry about “doing it wrong.”

Here’s the thing: you’re not alone. In Canada and across the U.S., an increasing number of emergency dispatchers are being trained to guide callers through CPR step by step. It’s called dispatcher-assisted CPR, and it’s saving lives.

CPR is universal. A chest compression in Toronto should look the same as one in Tokyo. That’s why Heart & Stroke Canada doesn’t invent its own rules. It follows ILCOR, the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, which reviews the science. This means when you take a class with Lifeline CPR Services, you are learning techniques proven around the world.
