You never know what you’re going to find at the end of a school day
When our students walk into our after school program there’s a range of emotions and experiences everyone’s had throughout their day
Balancing education with calm and also entertainment can sometimes be a challenge
With my primary students group activities can work really well
They’re engaging with eachother and also following to what the group is doing.
Singing during circle time is great because it’s an outlet and also some time to shine, with them taking turns contributing individually depending on the song
Circle time is one of my favourite ways to bring the class together in an easygoing and fun way, and still have structure

Early years settings can play a key role in promoting the
visibility, inclusion, and active participation of young children in society.
Opportunities to engage with people, places, and the
natural world in the local environment help children, families, educators, and communities build connections, learn and discover, and make contributions to the world around them.
It fosters a sense of belonging to the local community, the natural environment, and the larger universe of living things.
As well, communities benefit from the rich experiences they have in learning about, with, and from children.
~From How Does Learning Happen, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years
Robbery!
Not the stolen toy, but an adult’s interference in children’s conflicts.
Resisting the urge to get involved when children argue can be hard as an adult; it’s a simple situation and we love fixing problems.
We’d be robbing them of major growth!
Allowing space for toddlers to learn to sort out their own challenges is vital in their development, and it’s so worth while in the long term!
Learning to share, to advocate for themselves, to take turns, to negotiate, to express their emotions, to respect others, the list goes on and on.
Toddlers also have the special gift of letting things go pretty quickly, something WE can actually learn from them 🩷
Toddler conversations…
The little boy you see is being asked about the scrape on his knee.
Toddlers are the center of their own worlds. Watching our students develop care and empathy is a real sign of growth
Sweet moments like this make work days feel light💛
How are butterflies like preschoolers?
With graduation around the corner, I can’t help but think about the parallels between a caterpillar become a butterfly, andour sweet students who came to us an young toddlers and will be leaving for kindergarten very soon🥹😭
It’s an emotional time of year. We’re so proud of each and every one of our students and also sad to see them leaving us 🩷

🌸Sometimes that means more structure, and some times that means more freedom.
