The theme here is Japanese snow monkeys that bathe in hot springs during the winter. Children (agew 7-10) who are ready for the extra challenge got a task of adding a person to their composition. All children create their own composition, so there are no identical drawings or paintings!

This is the fall theme, executed with color pencils. These works are done by my youngest artists. The challenge was to do a reflection which appears darker due to the dark color of the lake water.

With my older group (ages 9-12y) we were studying the anatomy of a horse. Children were shown the skeleton structure of a horse, and proportions were dicussed. It was especially important to unerstand the structure of the hind legs, since they are a bit more challenging than the front pair.

The paintings done by the young artists, working in a longer class (1.5h). The challenge was to paint the reflection in the water. Children had a choice to illustrate either a horse, or a moose, or a deer. Everyone picked a deer.

Here are the seagulls that my youngest students painted with watercolors and gouache in the beginning of the year. The task was to illustrate flying seagulls, resting seagulls, and moody seagulls, shrieking and flapping their wings. Young artists were also deciding on their own what kind of mood the sea was in (stormy or calm).
