🔥 One of the most common questions that parents ask us is the question “How will a child socialize in a small school? After all, the school is small! I would like there to be more kids the same age as my child.”

💣 The biggest misconception that parents have when choosing a school is the myth “about the socialization of the child.”

⁉️ What is socialization?
This is the ability to accept and follow the rules in the community in which you are.

⁉️ But what if you don’t understand these rules or don’t correspond to the values that exist in your family? After all, a conflict arises. And if you are an adult, you accept or do not accept the situation and decide it: leave or stay.

⁉️ How does this process happen at school?

🎯 What is the “correct” socialization of a child?
✅ The parents choose the school for the child. The child trusts the parents' choice. He comes to a school in which there is a set of rules in the organization of everything: the educational process, people’s communication with each other, a certain set of values that are followed in this children’s and teacher’s team.

🔥 What do you hear more often from children: “Oh! I won’t succeed!” or “Can I try it?”

✅ From guys who are just starting to study at our Gymnasium, we often hear the first answer. He “tells” us about the child’s lack of confidence in his abilities, and about the fact that he may have already “tried” a lot of things in his life in terms of “working out”, but got lost, and about laziness, and about lack of interest, and more about a lot of things.

✅ But a little time passes, and we begin to hear the second answer.
This answer is about the fact that each of our students, whether they are very young or already an experienced student, begins to use the opportunities that are offered to them.

Gradually the guys begin to understand that:
1. If you don’t try, you won’t know: can you do it or not, do you like it or not, will you do it or not?
2. Making a mistake in something you encounter for the first time in your life is not scary! This is called experience.
Therefore, we create conditions for our children to “try” different experiences.

How to do it? This is our 11th secret!

🎯 Secret No. 11 – TEACH YOUR CHILD WHAT HE WILL TAKE WITH HIM IN LIFE!

Our children will not immediately appreciate the results of what we are doing today. Now for them it’s a game, a good time with friends and teachers, some interesting school activities. And a lot of possibilities!

👉 ACADEMICALLY, this is, for example:
- Stand in place of the teacher and teach a lesson instead to classmates or kids (Self-Government Day),
- Participate in the school subject Olympiad (the Second Academic Trimester in the Gymnasium is the time to show your subject achievements),
- Pass a real oral exam in the subject at the end of the school year (This is a separate topic!).

👉 And in terms of CREATIVITY, each of our students has simply unlimited possibilities!
- Participation in performances,
- Drawing in different techniques,
- Labor training (weaving, sewing),
- General cleaning,
- Dance in different styles,
- Singing (during the school year, the song repertoire is replenished with 15-20 songs that the children know and sing)
- Learn to play the piano,

At the cooking master classes, our children have already learned how to peel and cook potatoes, make vegetable salads, bake cookies and even make sushi!

At Yes!School Gymnasium, from the 5th grade, children learn about educational techniques and strategies. We give children a “fishing rod” and teach them how to use it.
In this subject, children learn techniques for speed reading and working with information, the basics of mnemonics, focusing attention and directed creative imagination, the basics of stress and time management, and managing emotions.
These are those supra-subject skills that allow our schoolchildren to learn to study independently, quickly, and efficiently. They understand how to make their learning process manageable and effective.

Today, when they talk about “school,” they always discuss the topic of “individual approach.” Everyone puts “their own” into understanding “what it is individually.”

❓ Why are they talking about this?
Because it’s clear: “All children are different!” You can't teach everyone everything the same way!

❓ Is it possible to approach each child individually within a large school?
Can. But this is a big, big job of the entire team, which, within the framework of the educational systems known to me, is now possible only in Singapore.

I was convinced of this myself when I was trained by Singaporeans. Six months of studying with them - and many changes in my picture of the world about “how to teach children.” Their educational system is a miracle in the world of education, which has allowed the small island state to become No. 1 in the world, overtaking Japan, China, and Finland.

🔥 How do we, within the Gymnasium, implement an “individual approach” for each child?

This is one of our main secrets! And this is the answer for many parents to the questions:

Secret No. 9️⃣ – INDIVIDUAL APPROACH TO EACH CHILD.

1️⃣ LEARNING STYLE.
All children are different! It is impossible to teach all children the same way. Therefore, small number of children in classes allows each teacher to study/understand the characteristics of each child.
Everything matters! During classes, when a teacher works with a child “eye to eye,” details are often revealed that are impossible to notice in a particular child if he is among a large number of children!

What we pay attention to when a child comes to our lesson:

KEEPING FOCUS ON...

Small schools are different. Each has its own tasks.

In our Gymnasium, the focus is on teaching the child to learn.
Today there is a lot of talk about what a “strong school” is.
I see how “strong” students are invited to schools similar to ours. These are children who have the ability to learn and are initially ready to study only “excellently”. These children are tested. And if the child “suits”, they take him.

But is this the strength of the school? Any school can “work for the strong.”

But if different children come to school with their own characteristics, and after some time they become “strong” students - this is the result that makes the school strong.

I say this with confidence, because in these short, almost 4 years of work at the Gymnasium, we have our strong results.

This fall, two of our children, who studied from 5th to 7th grade, successfully passed the entrance exams to High School for the IB program. Result - 100%! We have something to be proud of!
These guys didn't "grab stars from the sky." For 3 years at the Gymnasium they were taught to work independently. We have completed our task!

What features do we have that make training at Yes!School Gymnasium strong?

7️⃣ Focus on learning

In learning, the process and the result are important. If you want to get results, organize the process correctly. We have our own “proprietary” features in this direction. Now I want to tell you only some of them.

In a classroom environment with a limited number of students, our teachers invest instructional time in learning the material rather than in maintaining discipline. It is impossible to be distracted because your hands and brains are busy. The teacher is nearby, he guides the student: asks questions, organizes the process and observes “who is doing what,” checking the work. Each teacher ensures that the children are constantly involved and understand what they are teaching. There is no “dancing with tambourines” here. Just as appetite comes with eating, interest in learning comes with learning.

🔴 BONUS 1.
Each child gradually learns to “feel time.” Because at first it is the teacher who correctly alternates the time of focus and rest while studying. Gradually the child learns to do this on his own.

Everyone develops a skill that can be called “mental discipline.” Lack of ability to mentally exert oneself is the No. 1 problem among modern schoolchildren. They are used to taking everything in a “ready” form. We often hear from children who come to our Gymnasium for evening classes that they “don’t have the ability to do something” or they “are not good with something” instead of taking action. In our Gymnasium we develop this ability. The ability to start work and focus on the task at hand until the result is achieved is the basis for any human activity.

In our Gymnasium there is a division into classes. But this is a convention! Many of our students are able to learn faster than they would in a regular classroom. This means that in small classes everyone has the opportunity to learn more. We don't just "go over the topic" of a subject. We have the opportunity to work on it efficiently, deepen and expand knowledge on it.
As a result, over the years of operation of the Gymnasium, we have children who complete the program faster during the school year and focus on additional knowledge and skills outside the school curriculum. Or they complete a 2-grade program in certain subjects in one academic year.

Our task is not to overload the child with studies. I'll talk about this later. Our task is to make the child strong in academic work, to help him learn to learn, to taste “knowledge”, to learn to obtain it on his own, relying on his strengths. They know that they have the right to share their opinion, ask a question, and adequately respond to the objections of their classmates.

Small schools are also different. The number of teachers and their tasks in such schools are largely determined by the idea of the school.

Today in our Gymnasium the student-teacher ratio in the lesson is 4:1. Almost individual approach!

The school maintains a balance of academic and creative subjects. It is important for us that the child has the opportunity to develop his horizons in different directions.

Currently, the school employs 12 teachers, four of them have a PhD degree. Each teacher oversees his own subject area. Of course, a mathematician can bake cakes perfectly, and a physical education teacher can sing in a choir. These are the personal abilities and talents of specific people. It is very valuable when a teacher also has a passion, something that he can further reveal to children as a person.

And yet, we support the need of our teachers to develop deeply professionally in their subject, and come up with interdisciplinary projects in which everyone can demonstrate their subject and personal abilities and talents.
