“I am still learning”-Michaelangelo. I believe that learning to play the piano is a lifelong journey with new and exciting discoveries and for myself the learning never stops. I learn everyday from my students, from my teachers and I learn from the music that I play. As a pianist and a piano student, I hold a Level 8 piano certificate wi

th the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and I am working towards achieving a Level 9. As a teacher I have recently obtained an Elementary Piano Teacher Certificate with the RCM and have over 10 years of experience teaching beginner students. I teach piano because I want to pass on my general love for music and the instrument. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and watching my students progress into independent learners. I want my students to come away from their lessons feeling inspired and looking forward to their next lesson. In my lessons we will cover all the important elements of piano playing, as well as the 4 pillars of music study: physical development, musicianship, music literacy and artistry. A healthy physical approach using proper technique, an understanding of music theory, strong reading skills, musical ear training and a good sense of rhythm are all key factors that will help to learn pieces more quickly, and to play more expressively and with confidence. With the right instruction anyone can learn to play the piano. Using a combination of beginner piano methods, as well as RCM repertoire found in the Celebration Series collections, we explore a variety of genres from classical to pop culture. I encourage students to explore music that speaks to their character and interests, while working on the important aspects to build a strong musical foundation. Participation in any musical activity that keeps students practicing and learning is always encouraged. I have successfully prepared students for RCM exams, school talent shows and provide them with the opportunity to showcase their hard work by performing in a yearly recital. I teach school-aged children and adults of all ages. The lessons are tailored to the students’ personal goals and interests. Beginners should expect a 30 to 60-minute weekly lesson and commit to practicing daily. I will help students in coming up with a structured and organized practice plan to ensure steady progress and to maintain motivation. I believe a strong student/teacher relationship is paramount for optimal learning. Piano study should be fun, challenging and rewarding. This is what keeps me motivated to keep on improving as both a piano player and as a teacher and I am honored to be a part of my students’ musical journeys.
