Decker Lake School "Pie in Face" Fundraiser

Decker Lake School held their food bank fundraiser yesterday in front of the whole school. Students and staff bought tickets to be one of the three lucky people to throw pies at Principal, Eleanor Giesbretcht, Asst. Superintendent, Mike Skinner and Union President, Jim Iker.

This event raised money for The Link in Burns Lake and capped off a wonderful sports day under blue skies.

Staff who work across the district jumped on the bus to meet at Muriel Mould Neighbourhood Learning Centre in Burns Lake.

Retirement Dinner 2026

Each year, School District 91 hosts a special dinner to celebrate and recognize staff members for their years of dedicated service as they transition to retirement.

While not all retirees choose to attend the dinner, we want to acknowledge the 25 staff members who will be leaving our district in just a few weeks. The retirement class of 2026 collectively represents an average of over 26 years of service to the students, families, and colleagues in SD91.

We wish the retirees all the best in their next chapter!

A big thank you again to Donna, Debbie, Brittany and the facilities team for the behind-the-scenes work that made this a special night.

The Annual Sturgeon Release took place at Riverside Park in Vanderhoof last Friday.

A great day was enjoyed by all; connecting students with environmental and watershed stewardship practices from over 24 separate organizations who participated this year – a new record!!

These many ‘Partners in Education’ provided 829 students (a new record as well) from across the School District with the opportunity to release their own salmon fry, take part in a class photo with their named sturgeon, enjoy a multitude of informational/hands-on learning stations, and relax with a provided lunch.

🎓 It’s June--which means it’s time to celebrate the Class of 2026!

Grad season officially kicked off this past weekend with EBUS Academy hosting the first of its two ceremonies for online students.
Over the next few weekends, our four high schools will be celebrating with their own ceremonies and dances.

Congratulations to all graduates and their families.

Project Heavy Duty recently provided 18 students from across the school district with a fantastic day of hands-on equipment operation.

Experienced operators shared their skills and professional insights with students from LDSS, FLESS, FSJSS, and NVSS. Of course, the ability to operate the varied pieces of equipment was the highlight for the participants who ranged from Grade 10 to Grade 12.

SD91 Career & Trades Programs extends its thanks and appreciation to our Partners in Education who continue to come forward to make career awareness events such as PHD possible year over year.

Thanks to this year's organizations and companies:

Advanced Millwright Services, BC Hydro, M4 Enterprises, Stephen Bros., Blue Valley Enterprises, Yellowhead Road & Bridge, Newland Enterprises, Blue Valley Trucking, and the District of Vanderhoof.
