World Mental Health Day takes place every year on October 10th

This World Mental Health Day, let’s take time to talk, listen, and support better mental health together. By fostering understanding, compassion, and connection, we can help create environments where everyone feels valued, supported, and comfortable reaching out when they need help.

World Mental Health Day reminds us of the vital role mental well-being plays in our overall health, relationships, and ability to thrive. It is an opportunity to reflect on how we can continue to support the mental health of all members of our communities through kindness, awareness, and meaningful action.

Together, we can reduce stigma, encourage open conversations, and ensure that no one feels alone in facing health challenges.

October is Farm to School Month!

School District 91 is grateful for the many regional farmers, ranchers, and food producers who help bring local food to students across our district.

In September, locally sourced purchases -

Beef from:
Speckled Sow, Copper T Ranch, NEST Ridge Angus, Rafter 10 Ranch, and Reimer Ranch

Vegetables from local farms, including:
• Broccoli, celery, cabbage, and carrots from Felicity Farm
• Carrots, garlic, and onions from Borno Farms

September also marked the first run of an exciting new pilot project that moved over 700 pounds of locally grown produce along Highway 16.

Working in partnership with Feed the North, produce from farms across the Bulkley Valley was aggregated and distributed to support school food programs.

The pilot included items from Ferme Nord Lys Farm, True North Acres, Price Creek, and Suskwa Valley Farm:
• Carrots
• Potatoes
• Onions
• Squash
• Tomatoes
• Kohlrabi
• Salad turnips
• Cabbage

This pilot represents an important step toward strengthening regional food systems and increasing access to local foods in schools. We hope future pilot runs will expand to include products from additional growing regions, including the new farm at FLESS.

A second pilot shipment is planned for later this month, and thanks to an Innovation Grant from the Ministry of Education and Child Care, conversations and knowledge-sharing will continue throughout the winter to plan for the next growing season.

Updated Election Information

Mette Boell & Troel Skytt of The Center for Systems Awareness came all the way from Denmark to bring Foundations I to Ts’il Kaz Koh in cooperation with the Indigenous Education Council of SD91 and Compassionate Systems BC.

Employees, students, parents, and community members attended 3-5 days of learning focused on systems, self-awareness, connection, insight, and purpose, all for the well-being of children and communities.

The conference occurred right before school startup and set a tone of caring and wellness for the year ahead with neurological healing science at the root of the learning.

Sinkut View celebrated 64 years and had their Terry Fox Run.

The Vanderhoof Community Foundation donated $2000 towards our gazebo that will be installed tomorrow! Thanks for the donation to help the school.

September 30th marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day are both observed annually on September 30th, and they are dedicated to honouring Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and to recognize the lasting impacts of Canada’s Residential School system.

These commemorations provide an opportunity to deepen Canada’s understanding of the intergenerational effects of residential schools and to reflect on their enduring legacy as part of the ongoing journey toward truth, healing, and reconciliation.
