The strategist in me loves writing about big and exciting astrological transits, such as the upcoming Uranus-Pluto trines.

But you know what can be just as powerful? Working with the Lunar Cycle.

The Moon is Balsamic until May 16, 1:01 p.m. PDT. It's an inauspicious time for bold new beginnings. But, it's an excellent time to recharge.

OK, be honest with me! Did reading this make you twitchy? Like, who has time to recharge these days?

Which takes me to this point: Your best ideas aren't coming from your to-do list.

They're coming from the shower. The walk. The moment you finally stop trying to figure it out.

There's a reason for that.

When we're always on — always focused, always producing, always optimizing — we crowd out the part of the brain that makes unexpected connections, surfaces deep insights, and hands us the answer we've been chasing.

Neuroscience calls it the default mode network. Nancy Colier, in The Power of Off, puts it beautifully: "Like a child, the mind needs recess periods in its day, when it can just run and play."

The Balsamic Moon — the quiet phase just before the New Moon — is exactly that recess. It's the time to let things settle, integrate, and surface.

It's not self-indulgent. It's strategic 😉

So if you've been pushing hard and hitting a wall — maybe the most productive thing you can do right now is nothing.

In this post, I wanted to share what happened in the world the last time we experienced this energy. It was in 1921-1922, over a century ago!

In a nutshell, the political pendulum swung hard to the right, especially in Europe. Keep in mind that Uranus and Pluto already came close to a trine in the fall of 2024 and 2025 - so we're already in that window, and the energy is already playing out.

And, it was a period of massive innovation and growth:

✨ Insulin was discovered
✨ The first public radio broadcasts went out
✨ The modern auto and airline industries were born
✨ And the stock market started booming — it was the beginning of the Roaring 20s

They say history doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes. We're in a period of rapid innovation now, the stock market - while it's been volatile recently - keeps defying expectations, and the right wing has gained strength or came to power in a number of countries.

👉🏼 But here's something important: you can't judge the quality of a year — or a period in history — by just one transit. (And you should most certainly consider the full picture of transits for stock market investments!)

2026 is not 1922. This year, we've gone through the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries - another rare alignment that adds its own distinct flavour to everything unfolding this year.

Geopolitical shifts. The world order being changed before our own eyes. Protectionism replacing the global village. Glamorization of power and military strength. That's very much in keeping with the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries.

Oh yes, and the Lunar Nodes will be moving into Aquarius and Leo soon. This one is not the best for the economy.

But, here is the thing. Mercury is combust this week — too close to the Sun — its powers are turned inward.

So instead of initiating Mercury-related undertakings such as launching marketing campaigns and signing contracts, use this week to come up with brilliant ideas, proposals, and innovative solutions. At work, it's a great week to hold a brainstorming meeting. The goal should be to inspire and generate ideas, rather than land on concrete solutions.

The same goes for your personal life! This week is great for reflecting on where you might be thinking small, and what you’re going to do about it.

But the star of the show is the New Moon in Ta**us, on May 16 at 1:01 p.m. PDT. We all go through hard Saturn transits when life feels like a frozen desert. And through upbeat Jupiter transits when it’s sunshine at the beach.

And in between, life is what we make it.

So this is me, consciously making time for beautiful moments with my family - last weekend, it was enjoying the last of the tulip season!

The Moon is getting ready to slip into an unusually lengthy void of course, from May 7, 7:18 a.m. PDT to May 8, 12:27 a.m. PDT.

It's an inauspicious period for new beginnings: there is a high chance nothing will come out of your investment of time and effort, in the end. (And I once ran an experiment that confirmed this!)

Don't send our resumes, apply for a loan, or go on an important first date during a void-of-course Moon. Routine tasks — laundry, gym, paying bills — are totally fine.

Now, on a lighter note, when the Moon is void of course, it just might be our cosmic loophole!

It's a great time to make plans you don't want fulfilled, or schedule things you don't want to do.
