밴쿠버 최고의 맛집이라고 볼 수 있겠네요.
1위는 Chambar 가 차지했습니다! 저도 여기 엄청맛있다고 소문만 들었는데 더 궁금해지네요. 가격은 뭐^^... 비쌉니다 메인디쉬에 최소 30불 이상입니다. 그래도 로맨틱한 레스토랑, 분위기 좋은 레스토랑으로도 뽑혔다고 하니 다가오는 크리스마스 때 연인과 함께 가면 좋겠네요^^

중간 가격대의 레스토랑 맛집순위 입니다. ㅎㅎ Tableau Bar Bistro가 1위를 했네요. 저는 이곳 지나가다 보기만 했는데 카페인줄 알았는데 레스토랑이네요~ 카페같이 인테리어가 참 예쁘더라구요! 가격은 20불 초중반 정도 합니다.

저렴한 가격의 레스토랑 순위입니다. White Spot은 분위기가 딱 패밀리 레스토랑이더라구요. 빕스랑 뭔가 비슷~ 맛도 그냥 비슷~ 딱히 색다를 건 없어서 개인적으로는 추천하지 않아요. 반면에 3위에 Save On Meats는 강추! 정육점 바로옆에 붙어있는데 인테리어도 좋고 음식도 정말 맛있어요! 게스타운 구경갔다가 딱 먹으러가면 좋은 위치! 추천합니다.

숙취해소의 최적인 레스토랑 순위 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 특히 3위의 레드웨건은 브런치 맛집으로도 유명합니다. 주말에 가면 그주변에 레스토랑 말고 아무것도 없는데 그 가게 앞에만 바글바글 줄서있는게 보이실 거에요. 근처에 가실 일이 있으시면 추천합니다.

[PIC] Thanksgiving Day!

추수감사절이 코앞으로 다가왔네요 ^^
캐나다에서는 10월 둘째 주 월요일을 추수감사절로 정하고 축하한다고 합니다ㅎㅎ 그러나 중요한 한가지! 추수감사절은 월요일 이지만 실제로 가족들이 다모여서 저녁을 먹는 건 일요일에 한다고 하네요. 전통적으로 그렇게 해왔다고 합니다. ㅎㅎ
비록 가족들과는 함께하지 못하지만, 친구들과 함께 즐거운 시간 보내시는건 어떨까요? ^^

Thanksgiving Day (Jour de l'Action de grâce in Canadian French) is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and on the second Monday of October in Canada. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well.

[PIC] 사라진 스팀클락?!

Gastown has lost an icon. The legendary Gastown Steam Clock, the steam-powered, 16-foot-tall clock on the corner of Cambie and Water Streets, is gone.

The clock was removed on Wednesday morning, Oct. 8, by city work crews, who carted it off on a flat-bed truck. It will spend the next two months in a city works yard getting some long overdue repairs before being returned to its original location.

The clock debuted on Sept. 26, 1977. If it happens to look a lot older than that, there’s good reason. The Victorian-style timepiece – with its brass and copper finishings – was part of a larger effort to give Gastown a more vintage look and lure in tourists (other touches included the faux cobblestones laid down on Water Street). The clock was installed to cover an existing steam grate and (at least, according to Wikipedia) “prevent street people from sleeping on the spot in cold weather.”

Since installation, the steam clock has delighted countless tourists, spewing forth a steady stream of vapour and “whistling” on the quarter hour. It’s powered by Vancouver’s unique steam heat, generated at a nearby downtown plant. The steam drives a miniature steam engine, which in turn lifts multiple steel balls upward. The force of the descending balls powers the clock.

But over the years, the clock has taken a beating. Insulation is falling off and jamming the gears, according to a report in the Vancouver Sun. The delicate steam manifold system needs to be redone, mechanical parts have to be repaired and several panes of glass need replacing. The extensive overhaul is expected to cost $50,000, nearly as much as the original price paid for the clock ($58,000) back in 1977.

깜짝놀라셨나요 ㅎㅎ 지난 8일, 시계를 회수하여 앞으로 두 달 간 수리 한다고 합니다. 수리 비용은 시계의 원래 가격에 맞먹는 정도라고 합니다만, 게스타운의 아이콘이니 꼭 수리해야겠죠? ㅎㅎ

대부분 밴쿠버 오시기 전에는 오피스잡을 기대하시고 오시는 분들이 많더라구요. 그러나 현실의 벽은 너무나 높다는 ㅜㅜ....

캐나다는 오히려 한국보다 인맥중심의 사회인것 같아요. 주변 캐내디안들 보면 인맥쌓기, 네트워킹 하러 일부러 모임도 참여하더라구요. 일반 회사에서도 한국 처럼 공개채용이 정기적으로 있는게 아니라 그냥 빈자리가 났을때 네트웍을 통해 지인을 추천해주는 식으로 인터뷰를 많이 보더라구요. 그래서 캐나다에 인맥이 없는 우리 입장에서는 참 구하기가 힘들죠 ㅜㅜ

2. 검색하시면 결과가 차르르~ 뜨는 대요, 여러 회사중에 LUSH도 보이네요! 여성분들에겐 친숙한 브랜드인데 회사분위기나 근무환경은 어떨지 궁금하네요. 그럴땐 바로, 이름 옆에 별표를 클릭하시면 그 회사에 대한 리뷰를 볼 수 있답니다.

외국나와 살다보니 괜히 한국어가 그리워지는 때가 있더라구요. 특히 영화관 같은곳에서 한글자막의 소중함이 얼마나 느껴지던지....^^.......

요즘 VIFF 밴쿠버 영화제 시즌을 맞아, 곳곳에 팜플렛이 보이네요~ ㅎㅎ 비가 많이 오기 시작해서 야외활동이 어려운 요즘, 영화 한편 보시는 건 어떨까요?^^

캐나다 밴쿠버에서 열리는 국제 영화제. 1930년대부터 비정기적인 축제 형식을 빌려 열리다가 1982년 현재와 같은 영화제로 탈바꿈했다. 그레이터밴쿠버국제영화제협회(The Greater Vancouver International Film Festival Society)가 주최하며 매년 250편의 영화를 소개한다. 해마다 9월 말에서 10월 초에 열리는데 토론토 국제 영화제(Toronto International Film Festival), 몬트리올 국제 영화제(Montreal International Film Festival)와 함께 캐나다 내에서 열리는 가장 큰 영화 행사로 꼽힌다.

영화 예술을 통해 다른 나라들에 대한 이해를 높이고 영화 예술의 발전을 촉진하며 세계 전역에서 온 영화 전문가들의 만남을 활성화한다는 목적을 가지고 있다.

영화 한편에 학생은 $11, 성인은 $13불이라고 합니다. 티켓이 여러장 있는 팩으로도 사실 수 있는데요, 표당 $1~2정도 저렴한 편이네요. 관심있는 영화가 많지 않다면 티켓으로 사시는게 나을 것 같습니다^^.
