Before you can speak powerfully, you need something worth saying.
We often notice the final result — a confident speech, a persuasive argument, an impressive college essay.
But long before a student gets there, there is writing.
Writing forces students to slow down and ask:
What do I actually think?
Why do I believe it?
What evidence supports it?
Would my argument still make sense to someone who disagrees with me?
And how do I communicate all of this in a way that another person will actually remember?
That is why we believe writing deserves to be developed as a skill of its own.
This fall, Coach Halima Badri is leading four specialized online writing courses for students in Grades 9–12, each developing that skill from a different direction:
✍️ Creative Writing — turning imagination into compelling characters, worlds and stories.
🧠 Academic Writing & Rhetorical Reasoning — learning to research, analyze evidence and construct persuasive arguments.
🎤 Speech Competition Persuasive Writing — taking an idea from topic selection and research all the way to a polished competition speech.
🎓 College Essay 101 — learning how to turn personal experiences into a compelling story that communicates who you are beyond grades and achievements.
And students are learning from someone who has experienced the power of these skills at the highest level.
Halima is a Harvard University graduate and 5-time U.S. Speech National Champion & Finalist who has coached national and state champions and helped students earn full-ride scholarships to universities including Harvard, Yale and Northwestern.
Her goal isn't to give students a formula for “good writing.”
It is to help them find their own voice — and develop the thinking, research and communication skills to make that voice worth listening to.
