For more than a decade, Vancouver Film School has partnered with leading institutions across Latin America to help aspiring creatives take the next step in their careers through exclusive scholarship opportunities.

Today, Latin American students represent the largest international student population at VFS, and those partnerships continue to create pathways into careers in film, animation, game design, writing, acting, and more.

In 2025 alone, VFS offered nine scholarships dedicated to Latin American talent, including opportunities through institutions such as TEC de Monterrey, Universidad de Los Andes, Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Belas Artes, FAAP, and Anáhuac University.

THEY LOOK SO DIFFERENT THAT THEY COULD BE TWINS!

That’s the tagline of the short film ‘What? You Guys Look Sorta Similar…’ by VFS Writing for Film, Television & Games alum Devon Martinez ✍️

The horror-comedy follows an office worker whose clueless coworker mistakes him for a demonic entity in the form of a Black man. Her ignorance quickly spirals into a frustrating and dangerous standoff fueled by mistaken identity and failed attempts at persuasion.

Devon comments the idea came to him after many instances in his life where he was inappropriately compared to other black celebrities and even people in his everyday life. Despite being comedic in nature, the film serves as a cautionary tale of how ignorance and generalizations can have hazardous consequences.

Devon wrote the script, co-produced with VFS Film Production alum Maddy Ginn and her production company Goose Berry Films, co-directed with VFS Writing alum Manny Obi, and still had time to star in the film himself 👏

Currently, ‘What? You Guys Look Sorta Similar…’ has been officially selected by four different festivals and premiered at Sketchfest run by the Smashed Potato Kids at the legendary Rio Theatre, Vancouver’s fastest-growing sketch comedy festival.

Devon continues to work on independent shoots and loves making new connections within the industry. The film is still in its festival run, and Devon currently has several other projects in post-production that he’s excited for audiences to see 🎬
