Looking for an opportunity to use your creative skills through design?

Women in Engineering SFU are looking for members of the Visual Art community to participate in their design competition, in hopes to bring a much-needed update to their logo. The winner will receive a $10 Starbucks gift card and will have their design used for merch, advertisements and more - submissions are open up until March 20th.

This is an official call for submissions for this year's Capture Photography Festival! For those who aren't aware, it is an annual festival featuring photography-based work from local and international artists. For more info on the festival, please visit: [http://capturephotofest.com]

I'm excited to inform you that the Visual Art Student Union's group exhibition has been accepted to participate in this year's festival. This year's group exhibition, titled Exposure, will be exhibiting student's photographic works throughout SFU's Goldcorp Centre for the Arts building with an open reception on April 6, 2018.

Exposure invites students to challenge the architectural and educational perspective of the SFU Woodward's campus. We are looking for photographic works that explore photography outside of its traditional form while interacting with Woodward's as a site.

If you are interested in participating in Exposure, please email a 300 word (MAX.) proposal along with images of past work!

A reminder for tonight!

The Visual Art Mixer is going down at the 611 Alexanders studio at 6PM - there will be games, a photobooth, and free food and drinks!!

If you have no idea where the Alexander studio is, Joni will be at the Woodwards lobby at 5:30PM to guide you over πŸ™‚

Ground Signals 09/22/2017

Have you been dying to see some new art exhibits? Look no further!

Surrey Art Gallery's show, Ground Signals, will be featuring Roxanne Charles, one of our MFA students, as an exhibiting artist and co-curator in it! Cathy Busby, whose work is at the Harbour Centre Gallery, will also be exhibiting, along with over 12 other artists of indigenous heritage from across Canada. Their show invites us to consider our own relationship to the Canadian landscapes in fresh and compelling ways through a combination of sounds and images.

Opening night is on Sept 23rd, admission is FREE!
It begins at 6:30pm, starting with a panel discussion moderated by curators Jordan Strom and Roxanne Charles with exhibiting artists Ruth Beer, Brandon Gabriel, ValΓ©rie d. Walker, and Bobbi L. Kozinuk. There will also be live performances that night!

For those who missed out on the LandMarks exhibition this summer which featured artworks by twelve artists, including Jeneen Frei Njootli and Jin-me Yoon, you'll have a chance to attend a presentation SEPT 13th from 7-9PM (Wednesday)!
There will be screenings of their work, along with a discussion regarding the site-specific installations and performative events they produced and presented in Stanley Park which will be lead by Professor Sabine Bitter and students Sophie Vanden Biggelaar, Roxanne Charles, and Krystle Coughlin.
