Fisheries research We emphasize catch and related time series starting in 1950, and fisheries-related information on every maritime country.

The Sea Around Us assesses the impact of fisheries on the marine ecosystems of the world, and offers mitigating solutions to a range of stakeholders. The Sea Around Us was initiated in collaboration with The Pew Charitable Trusts in 1999 to study the impact of fisheries on the marine ecosystems of the world, and to offer mitigating solutions to a range of stakeholders. We do this by providing data

🎓 Congratulations to our graduate student Anna Luna Rossi on completing her master’s degree!

Anna conducted outstanding research on integrating biodiversity, catch reconstruction and ecosystem modelling to inform sustainable fisheries in Saint Pierre and Miquelon (France) through a multi-scale approach.

We’re proud of your achievement and can’t wait to see what’s next for you, Anna! 🌊🐟

🌊 From shark finning hotspot to marine conservation success story.

Indonesia’s Misool Marine Reserve has seen fish biomass increase by 250% and shark populations rise by 190% thanks to strong protection measures, local leadership and constant enforcement. 🦈🐠

But challenges remain. Learn more 👇

Real MPA or paper park? Misool Marine Reserve | Sea Around Us Misool is a good example of what can be accomplished when different groups, such as the local community, authorities and tourism operators, join forces to protect the ocean.

Part of the Sea Around Us team is in Corsica for the Symposium on the Challenges of Sustainable Fishing in Mediterranean Island Environments. 🌊

The Symposium included an excursion to the Bonifacio Straits Natural Reserve, the largest marine protected area in metropolitan France, spanning marine and coastal habitats between Corsica and Sardinia.

The team also visited the Ermitage de la Trinité alongside representatives from the Environment Office responsible for the MPA.
