As technology continues to change what’s possible in the classroom, we’re reminded that great teaching has never just been about delivering information.

Good teaching is about relationships, curiosity, and encouragement. Good teachers know when to push, when to listen, and when to change the plan entirely.

Tools will change, but great teachers will keep making the difference. ❀

🐧 What if the aquarium wasn’t a field trip
 but field work?

For these Grade 6 learners, a day at the Vancouver Aquarium came with a job: documentary filmmaker. đŸŽ„đŸȘŒ

Before heading out, they studied real animal documentaries, learned how filmmakers use wide shots, close-ups, pans, tilts, tracking shots, and sound, then built their own shot lists.

At the aquarium, something shifted. They weren’t just looking at exhibits anymore. They were observing, questioning, framing, listening, and making decisions with purpose.

The footage is captured. Now comes the edit—and a little help from an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker. 👀

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a week since our team participated in the inaugural conference, held on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Stó:lƍ Coast Salish peoples.

The conference started with an amazing opening by .mh and the , whose music and storytelling reminded us of the power of culture, identity, and community to connect people through learning.

Thank you to , reminding us that meaningful learning is rooted in craftsmanship, character, and creating beautiful work that matters.

Throughout the conference, we had the opportunity to facilitate our own sessions while also learning from incredible workshops and Deep Dives that challenged our thinking and will continue to shape our work alongside schools in the coming year.

We were fortunate to hear powerful reflections from youth leaders and Finny Bicycle who shared their take on student agency.

Thank you to for hosting, and to everyone who organized, presented, participated, and shared their thinking. We left with new ideas, new questions, and a renewed excitement for the year ahead.

Do you remember when learning just meant being curious? It can be easy to forget sometimes.

At , inquiry-based learning doesn’t replace standards. It’s how learners meet them. Students take ownership of their learning, while still working toward clear graduation requirements and core competencies.

It challenges a common misconception that student-driven learning lacks structure or rigor.

What we saw was a model where curiosity, responsibility, and high expectations work together.

So the question isn’t whether inquiry-based models work, it’s what parts of it are we ready to bring into our own classrooms?

What happens when you shift the focus from students to learners and make school less about studying and more about building real understanding?

This experience challenged us to think differently about student agency, inquiry-based learning, and what school can look like in today’s world.

What does school look like when curiosity drives the learning?

When we stepped inside the Pacific School of Innovation & Inquiry in Victoria, BC, the first thing we noticed was how different it felt.

Students are called learners, and teachers act more like facilitators and coaches. Together they co-create personalized learning paths connected to the BC curriculum.

Instead of traditional classrooms, learners move through spaces designed to support their inquiries — from meeting rooms and tech labs to open studios for building, designing, and creating.

It’s a model built around curiosity, responsibility, and trust.
