The Arab Student Association (ASA) at UBC is an organization that serves to present Arab history and culture to the Arab and non-Arab student population.
Through the understanding of such a vibrant history and culture ASA aspires to achieve 3 objectives.
1. To advocate awareness against violence and discrimination.
2. To spread Arab representation throughout the university.
3. To amplify Arab unity. Our members are compromised of Arabs and Non Arabs from all faculties on campus. We started this society because of the growing under representation o
f the Arab student body. We hope to diminish this and promote not only unity of Arab students, but to bring together Arabs and Non-Arabs all over campus, creating a multicultural, well informed, non discriminatory community. Above all, we aim to project a respectful, united, socially conscious and sincere image of the Arab world and peoples to the Vancouver and Canadian community. Throughout the year ASA will organize events to stage Middle Eastern culture such as traditional dance performances, poetry recitals, literary discussions, and much more. In addition to the cultural aspect of the association there will be lectures given by renowned knowledgeable speakers on political and economic issues that inflict the Middle East. On a less serious note…if you didn’t know it already, much of the Middle Eastern culture revolves around social activities. We’re here to provide that enjoyable environment through Arab food, music, culture, company and conversation, and have as much fun as possible. The Arab Student Association welcomes anybody interested in expanding their knowledge of a distinct culture, as well as partaking in intellectually stimulating discussions. Finally, we ask that you aid us in building a strong foundation for the Arab Student Association by contacting us with any feedback and suggestions. We can be contacted at [email protected].
