Languages Canada and Academica Group have released a major multi-institutional study on English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs in Canadian public colleges and universities. The report analyzes over 100,000 student records from nine institutions to determine how EAP participation impacts international student success.

Key findings show that at the university level, students who complete EAP programs have significantly higher first-year GPAs and retention rates compared to peers who enter directly. At the college level, EAP students perform on par with non-EAP students after accounting for background variables—confirming the value of EAP as an equitable pathway to postsecondary success.

This report offers critical insights for policymakers, institutions, and educators seeking to strengthen language support and improve access for international learners.

Global Education Pivot: Canadian Solutions in Challenging Times

We at Smrt English understand that we are coming into tough times of significant change and adaptation for everyone in the education sector. As a 100% owned Canadian product, we are aware of the shifting landscape and growing interest in non-US and educational partnerships.

We have been hearing from many of you - education leaders, administrators, and teachers about the desire to find alternatives. There is a clear message that many institutions want to lessen their dependence on the US and that has led them to actively seeking Canadian, Mexican, and other curricula, text books, partnerships, and joint programming.

For decades the US has dominated the Education Business Market. However, with recent developments and sanctions against Canada, Mexico, and China, as well as alienation towards Europe, institutions around the world are looking elsewhere.

Here in Canada, our leaders, businesses, and educational institutions are responding to this call. There is a strong push to redirect contracts away from the USA, driven by government initiatives, public pressure, and the voices of teachers and students. Institutions are cancelling contracts with the US and negotiating new contracts with Canada and other countries.

At Smrt English, we are confident that not only can we meet but we can exceed expectations of those seeking high quality, reliable, and affordable educational resources. We are proud to offer our unique curriculum, exceptional support, and competitive pricing. We welcome enquiries and discussions and are very thankful for the support Canada has received since the sanctions took effect.
