UBC's Master of Engineering in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering is the only program of its kind on Canada's West Coast. The program is concerned with all aspects (design, construction, maintenance and operation) of waterborne vehicles, and provides students with a comprehensive education that enables them to design and construct ships and other structures in the marine environment.

NAME faculty members Dr. Rajeev Jaiman and Dr. Jasmin Jelovica are working on solutions such as adding wavy and serrated edges to propellers to break up flow patterns, and an AI-based framework to rapidly analyze the fluid interactions and dynamics behind the noise.

UBC engineers want to save whales from drowning…in noise Chronic ship noise can lead to stress, hearing loss and feeding problems for marine mammals like whales, dolphins and porpoises. UBC researchers are diving in to help address the issue.
