You are losing job offers because you sound like an ESL textbook.

You think formal vocabulary proves your competence, but Canadian employers just see an awkward liability they want to ignore.

“I am seeking employment.” “Please review my attached CV.”

Stop hitting send on these messages.

You are forcing decision-makers into an uncomfortable power dynamic.

They don’t know you. Their default reaction is deletion.

High-status Canadian English is casual. It is confident. It is direct.

When you use overly formal, academic language, you signal that you are a subordinate begging for a favor.

You want a referral? Stop asking for one.

Find a mutual interest.
Identify a specific problem they have.
Bring value first.
Act like a peer with a solution, not a student asking for a grade.

The Canadian corporate system ignores beggars. It pays problem solvers.

Check your sent folder right now.
If you sound like a textbook, you are bleeding money.

Drop the formal act. Comment NETWORK below and I will send you the exact direct message templates to bypass gatekeepers and get responses.

Sounding fluent in your head and actually saying it out loud in a meeting are two completely different sports.

What’s yours? ✂️

If it isn’t mentioned, type the name in the comments and we’ll add it to the next version.

I’d like to see you try writing your booking line, for example: “Hi, I’d like an undercut with a low fade please.” Let’s see how you do 😃

This is not usually something you think about or prepare beforehand until you actually have to go there and ask. Went through it myself when I first moved to Canada 😅

I always get the same one though, so it’s easy now!

[FOR TEACHERS] “I don’t know what kind of content to post on Instagram…” 😩

If you want to reach more students with your page, you might be wondering what to post in here.

People is posting all kinds of formats, from stand-alone pictures, to reels, to IG TV videos, so I understand how you can be confused 🤔

Instagram and other platforms are changing all the time! 👩🏻‍💻

It depends on the trends they see people are following on social media:

What people is paying attention to. 💁
What their competitors are doing. 🏁
What kind of posts would people react to and consume the most. 📲

Right now that TikTok is growing so much, Instagram is pushing for short videos to be promoted more 📹

While carousel posts (the ones with more than one image) are still crushing 💪

If I were you:

✅ I would focus on posting Reels and Carousels two or three times per week (alternating between these two)!

✅ Do one single image post and one live session per week.

Of course, this works now but the platform is ALWAYS changing 😜

Here’s one tip that will help you decide what to post the most in your account:

1️⃣ Scroll through your own feed and see what kinds of posts you get the most:

- Are you noticing more videos than pictures now?
- What kind of content is the one you see appearing the most as you scroll down?

You can detect trends that way and organize your calendar accordingly 😃

I hope this helps you connect with more amazing students here!

The more you use the tools Instagram gives you effectively, the more people will see the awesome content you’re creating for them 🥳

Don’t let them miss out! 👩‍🎓👨‍🎓

Are you also an English teacher here? 👩‍🏫

What other tips can you give us in your experience?

Also, let me know if this kind of content is helpful to you and I’ll try making more 😃

Happy Monday!

What’s your favourite summer sport? ⚽️

It’s the second time I go paddle boarding this year and I gotta say it’s pretty cool!

The first time I tried it I fell, but this one time I came through all the paddling “unscathed” 💪

Unscathed means without suffering and injury, damage, or harm ⚠️

Although nobody would consider falling from a paddle, into the water, an injury or anything serious lol 😂

What about you? What’s your favourite summer sport? 😃

Also, if you’re a student, can you try writing a sentence with the word “unscathed” in it? 😉

If you’re a teacher, maybe you can share some common uses of this new word? 👨‍🏫

Talk soon!
Javier
