The 'Art of Peace,' Aikido develops coordination of mind and body to help with the stresses of daily life. This is truly "winning without fighting."

In Ki Aikido we learn to develop a positive, confident and invincible spirit, to extend our power fully, eliminate the fear of living, and to be a peaceful and principled presence in every aspect of our lives. Calmness, relaxation and developing non-aggression as our subconscious state allows us the full extension of our power. Working in pairs, exercises teach us to harmonize our movement and 'ki

I had the pleasure to do an interview with fellow aikidoka Jon Di Luca for his podcast Ki To The City. We had a far-reaching conversation about ki and aikido in daily life, and the arc of one's life.

“I have had the privilege of knowing and training with Sensei Michael Gordon since 2012, and his impact on my practice has been profound.

Sensei Gordon offers much more than physical self-defense; he teaches a way of moving through the world with centeredness, composure, and calm.

At Senshin Ki Aikido, the focus on ‘senshin’ (purified mind) is evident in every class. Having observed his teaching style for over a decade, I can attest that Sensei Gordon leads by example, demonstrating how to resolve conflict with grace and efficiency.

Under his guidance, I have found increased mental clarity, better physical coordination, and a deeper sense of discipline that extends far beyond the mat. His ability to bridge the gap between structural precision and fluid energy makes his instruction truly unique.” —Cui Zhisun, student and member

Aikido was never intended to be reduced to its martial forms. The systematization, politicization (internal hierarchy) and monetization was something that followed and from which the founder withdrew. O Sensei's stated vision was Aikido as a path to realization of a spiritual ethos: to build a living bridge between Heaven and Earth. The manifestation of universal love.

His immediate successor and protegé Toichi Kohei, to whom we largely owe our orientation, focused on a way to make O Sensei's teachings practical for everyday living.

To explain this differentiation from the mainstream approach (which I am not maligning whatsoever) is that the conventional methodology of Aikido is understood as: "Learn to handle others in order to learn to handle yourself." The orientation of Ki Aikido is: "Learn to examine and handle yourself as a path to handling anything."
