For over 50 years, the British Columbia Council of Teachers of German (BCCTG) has been a cornerstone in German language education across British Columbia. The annual conference in Vancouver, BC is the only event of its kind in the province, bringing together dedicated educators, sharing innovative teaching practices, and keeping the flame of German language and culture alive in our schools.

But this year, we are facing a serious challenge.

Due to changes in international funding priorities, traditional support from organizations like Netzwerk Deutsch is no longer available. Without this vital financial assistance, we are at risk of cancelling the Annual Conference in October 2025, something we have never had to do before.

How You Can Help
Because of this unfortunate event, we are turning to our community, past participants, German program supporters, language lovers, and anyone who believes in the value of multilingual education. Your donation will help to:

Cover basic costs to host the conference (either in-person or online)
Provide materials and workshop tools for teachers
Keep registration fees low so all educators can attend

🧑🏻‍🏫👩🏼‍🏫Our BCCTG Conference on October 5 and 6, 2024 presented several Classroom Bites where Instructors of German shared their most popular classroom activity offering a platform to highlight effective teaching strategies.

Antje Mahintorabi: 𝔽𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕋𝕣𝕖𝕖 𝕋𝕖𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘
➡️ Content: The project 4 Tree Teaching connects four trees, four communities and four stories. It allows children to learn about Vancouver’s three Indigenous Nations and understand their culturally significant trees. The fourth tree symbolizes one’s own identity. Stories are experienced, translated and explored together to convey indigenous knowledge and create a connection between cultures.
