Week 8 brought four hands-on themes to life. Students created blooming tissue-paper flowers, made explorer boats and hats, experimented with musical water jars, and practised buying and selling through a mini market.

Week 9 activities:

🚀 Monday | Outer Space
Launch balloon rockets and explore how air creates motion.

🏴‍☠️ Tuesday | Pirates & Mermaids
Design aluminum-foil pirate boats and test whether they float.

🌿 Wednesday | Plants & Mother Nature
Build structures with blocks and put them through an earthquake test.

🦎 Thursday | Reptiles & Amphibians
Create habitats based on what different animals need to survive.

🤖 Friday | Robots & Technology
Make cup telephones and discover how sound travels through vibrations.

☀️ Summer Camp Information
Ages 4–13 | Small groups with a 1:4 ratio
Half Day: $98 | Full Day: $195

Every finished project tells a story.

Not just of paint, paper, or clay—but of ideas, patience, creativity, and persistence.

As children create throughout the week, they learn to plan, solve problems, adapt when something doesn't work, and take pride in completing a task from start to finish.

The craft is what they bring home.

The confidence and skills they build along the way are what stay with them.

Will it fly? 🪂

This STEM challenge begins with a few simple materials: a paper cup, tissue paper, string, tape, and coloured paper.

Phase 1: Design
Children build their own parachute, deciding its shape, size, and decorations.

Phase 2: Test
They launch their parachutes and observe how they fall, noticing how air resistance, weight, and design affect the flight.

Phase 3: Adjust
Using what they discovered, they redesign, make improvements, and test again.

Every launch is a chance to think like an engineer—design, test, improve, and discover something new. Curiosity grows one experiment at a time. ✨

Should children type before they can handwrite every Chinese character?

At WonderWorks, we don't see typing as a replacement for handwriting—we see it as a bridge to expression.

Many children can already recognize characters, understand stories, and form ideas in Chinese. But if every sentence depends on writing every character correctly, it's easy for their desire to express themselves to disappear.

By introducing pinyin and typing at the appropriate stage, children can begin writing stories, sharing ideas, and using the Chinese they've already learned. As their confidence grows, we gradually develop their handwriting alongside it.

Because learning Chinese isn't just about writing more characters—it's about helping children communicate, create, and express themselves with confidence.

If you'd like to learn more about our Chinese reading and writing pathway for bilingual learners, we'd love to chat. Send us a message!

Another exciting week of Summer Camp has come to an end!

This week, our campers explored:
🐞 Creepy Crawlies
🦖 Dinosaurs & Dragons
👨‍👩‍👧 Families & Communities
🤝 Friendship & Feelings
🏰 Kingdoms & Castles

Each day was filled with hands-on STEM, creative projects, language activities, and outdoor exploration that encouraged curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Here's what's coming up in Week 8:
🪄 Tuesday – Magic & Imagination
Create a magic blooming flower experiment.

🏛️ Wednesday – Moments in History
Take on our card pyramid engineering challenge.

🎵 Thursday – Music & Musicians
Discover how water levels create different musical notes.

🛒 Friday – Numbers & Entrepreneurs
Design products and run a mini market.

Every week brings five brand-new themes and new opportunities for children to learn through hands-on experiences.

"Whoa! It's so long!" 🤯🫧

Sometimes the simplest STEM experiments create the biggest reactions.

Using nothing more than a cloth, dish soap, food colouring, bottle, and air our campers made colourful bubble snakes that just kept growing.

As they experimented, they also learned the science behind the fun: soap reduces water's surface tension, making bubbles easier to form, while the tiny holes in the cloth create hundreds of connected bubbles at once.

Hands-on experiments like these turn curiosity into real learning—because the best science lessons are the ones children can see, test, and get excited about.

✨ Easy to make. Impossible to stop playing with.

Public speaking doesn't begin with a presentation—it begins with practice.

During our Summer Camp, children regularly practice poems and read aloud together as part of our Public Speaking activities.

These simple classroom moments help children develop clear pronunciation, expressive speaking, active listening, and the confidence to communicate in front of others.

Strong communicators aren't built in a single performance. They're built through many opportunities to practice, one step at a time. Sometimes, growth begins with simply reading one line out loud.

Summer Camp runs until August 28, with flexible registration available. Reach out to find the best fit for your child.

Watching children grow is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

This summer, we had the pleasure of watching Vilsom become more confident each week. From joining group activities and working with classmates to sharing ideas and trying unfamiliar challenges, his willingness to participate continued to grow throughout the program.

At WonderWorks, we intentionally create opportunities for children to practice communication, collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and independence through hands-on learning. These everyday experiences help children build confidence that carries into every part of learning.

We're incredibly proud of you, Vilsom, and grateful to have been part of your summer journey. ❤️

☀️ Visiting Vancouver this summer? We'd love to welcome your child to our Summer Camp.

Every day at WonderWorks begins with a new theme—and every theme becomes an opportunity to build meaningful skills through hands-on learning.

This week, our campers explored:
🌦️ Weather & Seasons – Investigated how rain forms by creating a cloud in a jar.
🧚 A Twist on Fairy Tales – Discovered the science of surface tension through a magical glitter experiment.
🌍 Around the World – Explored buoyancy with the Dead Sea egg experiment while learning about countries and maps.
🎨 Art & Artists – Combined science and creativity by revealing invisible ink with a chemical reaction.
🕊️ Birds & Flight – Designed, tested, and improved whirlybirds to understand flight and engineering.

Across every activity, students practiced observing, asking questions, testing ideas, creating, collaborating, and solving problems.

Here's what's coming next week:
🐞 Creepy Crawlies – Build an insect catapult.
🦖 Dinosaurs & Dragons – Learn how scientists classify dinosaurs.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families & Communities – Discover dancing corn and explore community connections.
🤝 Friendship & Feelings – Work together to engineer a bridge.
🏰 Kingdoms & Castles – Design and build a castle from your own imagination.

Each day brings a new challenge, a new theme, and a new opportunity to grow.

Why do we have a themed hunt every day? 🌿🔎

Because children remember so much more when they discover things for themselves.

Instead of telling them what to notice, we give them a mission and invite them to explore.

Before long, they're spotting tiny bugs, interesting leaves, and cloud shapes—and asking questions we never had to prompt.

Without even realizing it, they're building observation skills, communication, and curiosity.

Every day's themed hunt comes with its own printable mission, turning an ordinary walk into an adventure. ✨
