A question like โ€œWhy pay for Forest Bathing when nature is free?โ€ deserves a clear answer.

At FTHub, professional guidance is not about replacing someoneโ€™s own relationship with nature. It is about adding structure, facilitation, safety, and an evidence-informed methodology to the experience.

That is why training matters. FTHub Certified Forest Bathing Guides and Forest Therapy Practitioners develop skills in the FTHub Method, the Liquid Interactions Model (LIM), Nature Connection Activities, group facilitation, psychological safety, and risk assessment.

FTHub also conducts and applies research in Forest Bathing, Forest Therapy, and Nature-based Interventions, using what we learn to continually develop our methodology and professional training.
In a field where approaches and professional standards can vary, understanding the methodology, evidence, and preparation behind a provider is important.

As stress and mental health concerns become increasingly important public health issues, research is paying closer attention to the role that forest environments may play in supporting psychological well-being.

This study adds an important layer to that discussion by looking beyond simple exposure to forests. It examines how people perceive forest environments and whether their level of perceived stress changes the relationship between those environments and psychological well-being.

The findings suggest that responses to forest environments are not necessarily uniform. Individual psychological state may influence how people experience and respond to the same environment, which is relevant when considering how nature-based interventions are designed and applied.

At Forest Therapy Hub, we continuously stay updated with emerging research in the field to help inform our methodology, professional training, and applied practice.

FTHub strengthens its presence in China through a new partnership

FTHubโ€™s work in China has been developing through training, research, and collaboration with local partners. The new partnership with Wang Gang Ping in Sichuan marks another step in that process, establishing the site as an official FTHub training location and creating new opportunities for practitioners from China and Europe to learn from one another.

The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding and included FTHubโ€™s first three-day immersive training in China. Around 20 participants took part, combining practical experience in nature with the principles of the FTHub Method, including sensory engagement, facilitation skills, safety, and evidence-informed practice.

Wang Gang Ping has also hosted two China-Europe Forest Bathing Forums, where practitioners, researchers, and partners from both regions came together to exchange knowledge and explore the development of Forest Therapy and nature-based well-being in China. In this way, the partnership creates space not only for training, but also for dialogue and learning across different perspectives and contexts.

The collaboration is now moving into its next phase, with FTHub close to finalizing a second cooperation and training site at a new location in China.

A 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis examined whether Forest Therapy can help reduce depressive symptoms.

Across 18 randomized controlled trials involving 2,169 participants, the combined results favored Forest Therapy over comparison conditions. The review included a wide range of participants, including healthy adults, people with chronic physical conditions, people with depression, and other higher-risk groups.

The findings are encouraging, but the authors also highlight important limitations. Results varied substantially between studies, publication bias was identified, and long-term follow-up was limited. After adjusting for publication bias by estimating potentially missing studies, the overall effect remained statistically significant, although it became smaller. The review calls for larger trials, more standardized protocols, and stronger long-term evidence.

This matters in a field where universally established standards are still lacking. FTHub not only follows emerging research but also generates and applies evidence through internationally funded research projects, using findings and implementation learning to continually refine our methodology, interventions, and training.

Listening is one way of engaging more intentionally with blue spaces. Water, wind, shoreline conditions, and other sensory elements can all shape how we experience aquatic environments.

The FTHub Wild Blue specialization course explores how sensory activities, water connection practices, and blue-space health research can be integrated into guided Nature-Based Interventions in aquatic, marine, and coastal settings.

09/10/2026

Forest Bathing is often reduced to a walk in the forest, a mindfulness exercise, or simply a way to relax. In practice, it is a structured approach with its own methodology, facilitation process, and growing scientific evidence base.

Understanding these distinctions matters, especially in a field where there are currently no universally established standards.

FTHub goes beyond translating existing evidence into practice. We conduct and apply our own research, learn from implementation, and use those findings to continuously develop our methodology, interventions, and professional training.

The FTHub Method, the Liquid Interactions Model (LIM), and the FTHub 5 Components of Nature-Based Interventions are the only nature-based health frameworks currently being researched at scale through international public funding. This research directly informs how FTHub approaches Forest Bathing, Forest Therapy, and professional training.
