You’re invited to join the listening party for Alex Klinke’s new album, Subtropical Tape Sessions, this Saturday, May 9, at 5pm PST on Bandcamp. Alex Klinke is a Digital Music Production alumnus and current instructor. They’ll be listening to the album from beginning to end, and Alex will be in the chat sharing a bit about the making of the record, answering questions, and hanging out. It’ll be a great chance to reconnect with friends and meet new people.

This album picks up where Alex left off 10 years ago with Lugares, before venturing into more ambient territory with the Playback Head project. Inspired by ethnographic field recordings and his love for the folk roots of Brazilian music, it plays like a fictional compilation of electronic pieces found in a weathered box of cassette tapes deep in the jungle.

Alumni Shon Wong and his band Son of James is putting on a very special variety show this upcoming Saturday. His band has played 2 Canucks games at Rogers Arena, sold out the CBC theater for an original musical and made several appearances on CTV. It's be a banger!

As many already know, Daft Punk has decided to hang up their helmets after 28 years of music making. We consider Random Access Memories one of the great sound records of all time, Tron as one of the best original scores in the modern era, and thought their epilogue video was a unique way of saying goodbye to the fans. We hope it inspires more acts to do the same when it's time to move to a new stage of life.
