July 1, 2026 marks the beginning of a new era in Nurse Practitioner licensure in Canada with the introduction of the CNPLE.
One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that students think success on this exam will come from memorizing more content.
The CNPLE is designed to assess much more than knowledge recall. It emphasizes clinical reasoning, critical thinking, decision-making, patient safety, and the ability to apply knowledge across the lifespan and a variety of clinical practice settings.
This is exactly why I've spent over a year building CNPLE Prep by The Teaching NP.
Designed around the CNPLE blueprint, the program was created to help students develop the clinical reasoning skills, confidence, and exam-taking strategies needed to approach this new licensing exam with greater clarity and preparation.
My goal is simple: to help future Nurse Practitioners feel more supported, more confident, and more prepared for success.
CNPLE Prep will be available very soon!

One of the biggest shifts NP students can make clinically is learning how to think systematically through patient presentations and build strong differential diagnoses.
Clinical reasoning is not just about identifying the most likely diagnosis. It’s also about recognizing what conditions you cannot afford to miss, identifying red flags early, and understanding how patient safety influences decision making.
This style of thinking will not only strengthen your confidence and clinical skills during practicums and patient encounters, but it will also help prepare you for the type of clinical reasoning and decision making expected on the CNPLE.

July 1, 2026 marks the beginning of a new era in Nurse Practitioner licensure across Canada with the transition toward the CNPLE 🇨🇦
While students now have access to the CNPLE blueprint, many are still left wondering how to actually prepare for this style of exam and what effective preparation should truly look like for a national exam focused on clinical reasoning, patient safety, decision-making, and broad clinical knowledge across the lifespan and different practice settings.
With over 14 years of experience supporting NP students through high-stakes exams, OSCEs, practicums, and the transition into practice, I’ve spent over a year building and designing CNPLE Prep by The Teaching NP — a comprehensive Canadian-focused preparation system developed specifically around the CNPLE blueprint and evolving expectations of NP licensure in Canada.
My goal has always been to help students feel more structured, more supported, and more confident as they prepare for success on their first attempt 🤍

One of the biggest shifts I notice as NP students grow clinically is the transition from memorizing information to truly learning how to think through patient scenarios.
Strong clinical reasoning is built through repetition, patient exposure, pattern recognition, reassessment, and understanding the why behind clinical decisions, not simply memorizing facts alone.
This is also why learning to think systematically, recognize red flags early, and build broad differentials becomes so important during practicums and beyond.
