Reflecting on our recent "Meet the Author" evening with Suzanne Scott Tomita, we feel privileged to have heard the personal stories that sparked the imaginative journey which culminated in ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ก ๐๐ซ๐๐ฃ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ผ๐ฃ๐๐๐ก๐จ. It is inspiring when an author pulls back the curtain on their process. The passion and curiosity of our audience, delicious food and selected wines from Sage Hayward Vineyards made for a truly memorable evening!โจ
Looking ahead:
On May 14th, we are honoured to have Musqueam elder, Larry Grant, in conversation with Scott Steedman, as our next guests in our "Meet the Author Series". Larry Grant, from both Musqueam and Chinese heritages, is a consummate storyteller with a razor sharp wit that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. This evening is sure to "rattle your cage" and make you think differently about what it is to "belong" on the West Coast of BC. ๐๐๐๐ค๐ฃ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฃ๐ is a memoir that should be in every school, library and home.
Donโt miss out on this chance to be part of a unparalleled dialogue; this session will fill quickly! ๐๐๏ธ

Join us for an evening of engaging discussion with Larry Grant and Scott Steedman, about the memoir: Reconciling
Drinks and light fare provided. Wine supplied by Sage Hayward Vineyards
To live authentically, we must own our roots, honour the land we live on and respect the cultural wisdoms of others.
Larry Grant is a living history book, a rare gift to people living on the Delta and lower mainland. As a disciplined story keeper, his words build understandings that in turn build connections that transcend difference and embrace diversity.
The Lyceum is honoured to host a conversation between Scott Steedman, co-author of Reconciling, and author Elder Larry Grant as they lay bare a unique time in West Coast history and share hope for the future.

On Wednesday, March 18th, reporter Elle Kitching was hunting for news (one of the Spring Break Camp activities: writing one's own news) when she discovered missing plants (double primulas) from the Lyceum Street garden.
Seven holes looked back at her where, the day before, seven bonny flowers had bloomed. Elle had her story, and soon the whole of 10th Ave was abuzz. On Saturday, Home Hardware chipped in with new primulas, and Henry and Nova replanted the garden.
When their work was done, they pinned up a sign asking the neighborhood to enjoy the fruits of their labor. What a wonderful example of rising above!

The origins of Pysanky are sometimes hard to pin down, with different stories pertaining to the year it began. Intricate patterns of symbols come together to create meaning on these storied treasures. In Ukraine, one can read what area an egg comes from simply glancing at the symbols embedded in the design.
During this, the first day of the Easter holiday, we invite you to story, design and dye your own Pysanky eggs. ๐ช๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ธ๐ถ๐๐๐ธ๐ฎ๐, ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐๐ฎ๐

How many stories have you read that draw on Shakespeareโs tragic themes in Hamlet?
It is because this master was such a keen observer of human nature that the themes that he writes about are repeated in different contexts right up until modern times.
This week our home learners finished their study of Hamlet by making masks that represent the connections between the Lion King and Hamlet.
Do you see the parallels?
