Thanks to Mr. Lamasan for taking a group of science-minded grade 9s to Ethos Lab Black-A-Thon last week at Microsoft’s Vancouver Campus.
The all-day event had student teams engaged in collaborative problem-solving to develop a prototype by the end of the day. Teams had access to a mentor from Microsoft, Electronic Arts, or the Centre for Digital Media.
Most importantly, the STEAM-focused event educated students on the profound impact of Black peoples’ contributions to science & innovation. 🧬

Congratulations to the 22 students in grades 8-10 who took part in the all-day Math Challengers competition at SFU this past Saturday. All students did well, with Felix & Owen advancing to the “face-off” round. 🙌
Next up for math enrichment is the annual University of Waterloo math contest for ~100 Grey Wolves in grades 8-11 this Wednesday at 7:30am in the dining hall. Good luck to them & thanks to Mr. Ito for facilitating these opportunities for our students. ♾️

We loved this recent “Buddy” activity between a grade 2 class (2DE) & kindergarten (KLM), where grade 2 students taught their younger peers about rights & responsibilities (and the differences between them) with a story & an exercise they created. Wonderful collaboration & learning! 🇺🇳

Last Thursday, room 216 in the Senior School transformed into Hogwarts, as 20 students in grades 7/8 participated in “Magical MUN.”The enchanting world of Harry Potter and the Dark Arts spiralled into the Model United Nations, debate & diplomacy.
Thanks to Wizarding Wonders Kevin George ‘25, Elliott Deyell ‘26, Quinton Meng ‘26 and James Wang ‘27 for their abracadabra efforts in pulling off this whimsical event, and kudos to our delegates—the wizarding world and local muggles are safe thanks to you! (And huge thanks to Ms. Haider & Ms. Boland, without whom this fantastical AND earthly Model UN club would not exist!)

Thanks to Ms. Point for coordinating a visit this afternoon for her Contemporary Indigenous Studies 12 class to the West Vancouver Public Library, where they explored the Witness Blanket replica by local master carver Carey Newman.
Ms. Point & Ms. Townrow are leading an Indigenous studies field trip with students next week to Manitoba, where they will view the original installation at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg. We look forward to hearing about their trip (which includes a visit to Churchill for dogsledding & the northern lights!) when they return. ✨
