Highlighting these excerpts from David Suzuki's column today (Aug 26th) in the Tyee.ca:
>>>{In our current colonial system of governance, elected representatives make decisions that determine the future of trees, fish, water, air, children and future generations. But none of those most profoundly impacted vote; only adult humans do, with all their vested interests in the status quo. Around the world, Indigenous people have been under assault because their perspective and values (called ecocentrism in contrast with the anthropocentrism of colonial systems) are seen as an impediment to unrestrained resource extraction. Yet they are the only group with a track record of living in balance with their surroundings for thousands of years. What government or corporation can make such a claim for even a few decades?
At a time when environmentalists realize genuine sustainability means a paradigm shift, Indigenous people have the best shot at showing us how to achieve it. But after more than a century of policies of occupation, appropriation and cultural genocide, they suffer numerous consequences from residential schools, systemic racism and poverty and outright murder. I believe they will be far better stewards than settlers have been and, once finances for their basic needs and infrastructure are provided and barriers to diverse economic development are removed, they will generously teach us the right path. As a settler, I am grateful to and thank Indigenous people for hanging on to their languages, culture and values because that’s what is needed in this time of global eco-crisis. And Indigenous people generously tell me, “we are all in the same canoe, and must learn to paddle together.” To keep their values alive, Indigenous people must regain sovereignty over their territory and collect appropriate rent for land already co-opted by government and occupied by settlers.}

BC HYDRO Site C dam info.! thought to post for interest.
Justify the dam…. The information should be public …
Via RanD Hadland
“In honour of Dermod Travis, Mr Integrity BC himself, and all our relations in the Peace River valley, I am reposting this 4 year old CHALLENGE.
In those four years, there has been no answers to the original post, let alone verifiable ones.
It has been suggested that we offer up a reward to anyone willing to send along some such positive verification of Hydros numbers.
I think we should open it up also to anyone offering similar evidence concerning Hydros engineering and geotechnical information.
How would people feel about donating to the request for funds, say through gofundme?
We could set up a fund under a lawyer.
Would it be good to offer anonymity?
Although coming forward with independent information that confirms Hydros figures should be a life affirming process for anyone with access to the info. And yet, no responses in 4 years.”

In this Age of uncertainty....in respect to Canada's First Nations People's... All 55 plus distinct Indigenous peoples are not being listened to by Trudeau.
No one can “give” us sovereignty. Our sovereignty is inherent.
Tat'ush Peters -Lilwat Nation Member.
We would not have the industrial Environmental destruction that we have today, if we had given Canada's First Nations Sovereignty.
Enabling them to govern themselves and practice their own culture and respect for the land, while being part of resource development their way.!!!

Here’s what we know (and what we still don’t) about Site C’s ballooning costs and the Milburn report, which flagged an ongoing lack of oversight at what is now the most expensive dam project in Canadian history.

RAVEN Trust is at West Moberly First Nations.
British Columbia ·

......................................NEWS!
Today, we learned that West Moberly First Nations has won an important motion following an appearance in court in March.
B.C. Supreme Court has ordered disclosure of documents related to the projected final cost and safety of Site C dam.
When West Moberly launched their lawsuit against Canada, B.C. and BC Hydro , the RAVEN community stepped up - big time.
You donated over $223k in just 6 weeks to ensure that the Nation not only have their day in court, but that they arrive equipped with the best possible evidence and legal representation.
Today’s win is a step towards that vision.!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, the Nation can prepare for trial in a much more targeted and strategic way. For example, West Moberly’s geotechnical experts will now be able to focus their scrutiny on specific areas of weakness identified in the newly-acquired materials.
Similarly, the financial experts will be able to work with actual figures on which the government is basing its decision-making, rather than piecing it together like taxpayers have been forced to do.
Does this mean British Columbians will finally get to see the hottest docs in town?
Not so fast! Justice Milman’s order does not allow West Moberly First Nations to share the materials with the public, and West Moberly must hold them subject to a confidentiality agreement to be negotiated with B.C.
We’re relieved and glad for West Moberly that they can now carry on with their legal preparations equipped with this important evidence.
The overwhelming support you’ve given to this case has buoyed the spirits of a Nation who has been pushing back against mega-dams for generations. We are so happy to be celebrating with them, and with you.
Go plant your feet on the spring grass and do a happy dance!!
