Join the MIT Club of Washington DC and the MIT Alumni for Climate Action for a special hybrid event featuring Professor Maria Zuber, the Presidential Advisor for Science and Technology Policy and E. A. Griswold Professor of Geophysics at MIT and a key figure in science and technology policy. As a leader in the development of MIT’s first two climate action plans, Professor Zuber will share her insights into the university's climate initiatives. Her talk will explore key themes related to innovation, science, and the role of institutions like MIT in driving progress towards a more sustainable future.
With a distinguished career that includes leadership roles in numerous NASA missions, chair of the National Science Board, and her current position as co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), to which she was appointed by President Biden, Professor Zuber brings a unique perspective to the challenges and opportunities in the fight against climate change.
This event offers a rare opportunity to hear from one of the foremost voices in the field. Attendees, whether in person at the MIT Washington Office or online, will gain valuable perspectives on climate action and the path forward.

MIT Professor Susan Solomon, author of “Solvable: How We Healed the Earth, and How We Can Do It Again” will present her thoughts on solving the climate crisis, based on her own experiences with tackling the problem of stratospheric ozone depletion, her involvement with international agreements related to pollution and climate change, and her knowledge of past triumphs in averting or mitigating serious damages from human activity. There are interesting parallels and notable differences between past environmental challenges and the climate crisis. The parallels and differences will be discussed, and Professor Solomon will help us understand what we as individuals and as members of organizations of concerned citizens can do to promote action.
