What a week Aklavik!

In only 5 days, 17 short videos were made, hundreds of great photos were taken, 1 deadly Tiktok was posted, brand news iPads were given out to the new filmmakers (12 in total) and 2 media interviews took place - CBC North and Cabin Radio. 🎤🎬

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our Intergenerational Digital Storytelling workshop such a success - to the awesome youth, adult and elder participants, organizers at and Allauviat Anguniarvik, Janine the School Principal, assistants & Curtis, our cooks Michelle, Dorothy and Cheryl, and to the awesome community for coming out in huge numbers to our Community Feast & Screening.

We couldn't have done this without you. 🙏🏻

Ps: I'm still dreaming about caribou - true story!!!

From the archive!

Anisha Carlick was so fun to work with in Whitehorse, Yukon last summer at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre for our 5-day Intergenerational Digital Storytelling Workshop. The care and thought that went into her project is clear from the first few seconds of the project, and continue right through to the end.

Anisha is a strong young leader in her community, and I am so excited to see what her future holds. 💕

Congrats on a great project Anisha, and I hope to reconnect with you again in the near future!

Happy Thursday everyone!

I was sick last week, but I'm back for a project update.

Feeling grateful for the rich diversity of projects and clients I get to work with. 🙏🏻

Please share my work with anyone you think might be interested in our Digital Literacy, Media Training and Mentorship opportunities. Your support means a lot. ❤️

From the archive!

When I asked Dylan Nitsiza of Behchokò, Northwest Territories if we could share his recent Digital Story, he replied "I appreciate if you can spread my story and photos far and wide!"

And so this is what we will do.

At the end of Day 1 of our Bechokò workshop March 2025, Dylan walked into the class and asked "what's going on here?" I explained the week of Digital Storytelling, and he told me he'd return the next morning to begin his project.

I was so impressed with how much time he took writing his narration, and you can hear the wisdom and power in his voice.

He completed his project before most other participants and helped me edit the YouTube captions for other projects, showing great initiative.

The last day of our workshop we held our Community Screening, and after Dylan's project was over, his Dad stood up to tell his son and everyone how proud he was of his son.

We hope you enjoy Dylan's project too.

Free Workshop Alert!

Raising Digitally Resilient Kids is a .ca workshop I really enjoy teaching - though this is technically a Parent workshop, I know how critical the lessons here are critical for adults of all ages. 💪🏻

Learn how to distinguish between risk and hazards online, and how to balance our digital well-being with dangers. This workshop also provides resources and strategies that we can take to manage these risks.

Follow the link in our bio to access the workshop now. I can also deliver this workshop with any parent group in Canada - please get in touch and we can discuss how to make this happen, either in-person or virtually.

From our archives, shared with permission: Clara Vanbibber, Dawson City, Yukon. September 2025.

In our Intergenerational Digital Storytelling workshop hosted by & Heritage departments, Clara shares her story of where she comes from, and what is important to her.

Youth Jada Silver and Deeds Carr helped Clara with her voice recording & drumming for her projects' background music.

A beautiful and powerful story from Clara, which demonstrates everything we can hope for in a project: a willingness to think deeply about what is important to us, the courage to share this through her narration, and the support from Heritage in helping Clara find archival images of her ancestors and herself to complement her words - all woven together into a video she can be very proud of.

Masi Cho Clara for your bravery, creativity and willingness to learn new video editing and digital storytelling skills!

As our campaign comes to an end today, we want to thank every single one of you for following along on our journey, liking our posts, commenting sweet words of support, and visiting our new site.

It’s a tough time in the world right now for many, and though it often feels tone-deaf to be sharing news of our small little business when so many folks are struggling with having basic needs met (Land Back! Free Palestine! Down with ICE!) I do believe it is helpful for us all to collectively root down and focus on the communities we are a part of, instead of succumbing to information overload, and paralysis.

There are many exciting new Hands On Media projects we are working on right now that we will be sharing with you in the coming weeks.

Until then, let us reconnect with each other, share our stories, and strengthen our communities.

Now, especially, and always.
