Artist David Popa just spent 10 days in Nordegg painting huge portraits on some of Alberta’s wildest landscapes. Here, in his own words, is what that experience was like: “Ice is one of the most daunting — yet rewarding — canvases I’ve ever worked on as an artist. And Abraham Lake in Alberta, Canada, might be one of the most epic places on Earth to create an earth fresco. It’s one of the only lakes where, during winter, you can see methane bubbles frozen beneath the surface. The wind here clears the snow from the lake and polishes it into pure glass. This collaboration with Travel Alberta has been nearly a year in the making, and genuinely one of the most rewarding projects of my life. For this piece, I only had two days. I couldn’t have pulled it off without a weather shift that felt honestly miraculous — just enough time to create a work that symbolizes renewal and rebirth in nature… everything my practice is built around. This piece is called “New Beginning” — the first of three works created in Alberta, Canada. I made it to the Norwegian Tall Ship last weekend. A great addition to my tall ship series.

The ‘Statsraad Lehmkuhl’, 110 years old ship in North Vancouver. At 98 metres in length and 48 m in height, the three-masted barque is one of the largest (and oldest) tall ships still sailing the seas.

The Columbian Tall Ship, ‘Gloria’ is back this weekend too (it was here ince before, but i lost those p*s on an external hard drive failure.

“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?” Childhood is not always a gentle place. Behind soft faces, there’s noise. A low, constant hum of confusion — of something broken, something unfinished. We grow up inside this turmoil, trying to make sense of the hurt, the silence, the weight no one sees. Some boys dream because reality is unbearable. Some invent versions of themselves because the truth feels too sharp. We learn to wear fantasies like skin — not to escape, but to survive. This series of images is not about answers. It’s about the fracture. The beautiful, unbearable process of becoming. Inspired by Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, these captures hold boys in that in-between: real and unreal, tender and torn, fragile and forming. Nothing really matters… to me. But maybe, in an image, it does.

4 Coffee House holds a lot of memories. The 4th Avenue days were some of the good old days. Friendships to this day.
The luge, the parties, the musicians, the dj’s, the art shows, the music, the clientele, the running groups, thd biking groups, the staff, Shaky Jim, the military, the affairs, movie nights, weekend waffles, when the curtains were closed we were just a thump in the neighborhood.

A great era from the past.

Tony Robins never disappoints. His mind is a beautiful thing. Glad I got to see his exhibition before it closes today. Always an inspiration.
