Will AI replace educators?

Dr. Noosha Mehdian doesn't think so. Instead, she believes AI is giving educators an opportunity to rethink how learning happens.

As an adjunct faculty member at Adler University and collaborator with AI in Education at Oxford University, Dr. Mehdian is helping lead global conversations about ethical AI, critical thinking, and the future of higher education.

Her research asks an important question: If AI can generate assignments, complete them, and even grade them, where does real learning happen?

Pressure changes everything. Preparation changes what happens next.

Why do some athletes thrive in high-stakes moments while others fold?

In a new article, Adler University’s Teressa Behrend Fletcher, Ph.D., explores the psychology behind performance under pressure — from penalty shots and final seconds to the mental skills that help athletes stay focused when it matters most.

The article breaks down three key factors that can help athletes move through pressure with confidence: physical competence, mental skills, and practicing under competitive conditions.

When Tamara Hubbard’s three-year-old son was diagnosed with a peanut allergy, she found plenty of medical guidance. What she couldn’t find was support for the anxiety, grief, and overwhelm her family was facing.

The answers she needed didn’t exist. So she created them.

Today, the Adler alum’s book, May Contain Anxiety, and the Academy of Food Allergy Counseling are helping families and clinicians across the country better understand the emotional realities of living with food allergies.

Adler University alumni are publishing work that reaches across communities, disciplines, and lived experiences.

Their books explore healing, leadership, emotional well-being, resilience, and the systems that shape how people relate, recover, and grow.

Together, these alumni authors offer a powerful look at how Adler’s approach to education continues beyond the classroom — taking shape in books that support families, survivors, children, leaders, and communities.

Mental health is not only studied. It is experienced, interpreted, and shared — often through the stories we tell and the media we engage with.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we asked Adler students and staff to share the books and shows that have stayed with them, and why these stories matter to mental health awareness.

Together, these recommendations remind us that mental health is not one story. It is many — shaped by culture, relationships, systems, and lived experience.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, Aaron Williams, MA ’24, reminds us that support often begins with something simple but powerful: showing up.

As mental health director at CHAMPS Male Mentoring in Chicago, Williams helps young men navigate trauma, build resilience, and imagine new possibilities for their lives. His work sits at the intersection of mentorship and therapy, grounded in the belief that healing happens in relationships.

A Chicago police officer turned therapist and mentor, Williams says Adler helped him move from identifying problems to designing solutions, strengthening his systems-level understanding of trauma, care, and community change.

Today, whether he is mentoring young men, supporting families, or modeling emotional self-care as a father of three, his work reflects a powerful truth: mental health care is not only about treatment. It is about presence, trust, and safe spaces where healing can begin.

Play can open doors.

For Adler University Professor Ryan Hansen, gaming offers a powerful way to think differently about therapy, connection, and how people work through challenges together.

At this year’s Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee, Hansen joined mental health professionals exploring how video games and tabletop role-playing games are being used in clinical practice.

In therapeutic settings, games can create space for reflection, identity exploration, perspective-taking, communication, and emotional growth. They can also offer something deeply Adlerian: a way to build belonging, practice collaboration, and meet people where they are.

Because sometimes, healing does not happen through conversation alone.
Sometimes, it happens through shared stories, imagined worlds, and the courage to try something new.

Celebrating Connection & Creativity in Vancouver!

Last week, our Vancouver Campus hosted two meaningful events that reflected the heart of our community.

✨ Our Alumni Gathering brought together graduates for an evening of connection, reflection, and shared purpose. We’re always inspired by the impact our alum continue to make in their communities.

🎨 The Student Art Showcase featured powerful works from our student body—each piece a bold expression of identity, healing, and hope.

These events remind us that learning doesn’t stop in the classroom—and that art and community are at the core of social change.

From Delhi to Vancouver, Anushka Jindal’s path has been marked by resilience, new beginnings, and a passion for community. On Nov. 5, Anushka will step up as the Adler University Vancouver Commencement graduate speaker at The Orpheum and share some words of wisdom with her peers.

For Anushka, her journey to Adler University has helped build meaningful connections. She helped launch the Adler International Association, and currently volunteers as a community well-being facilitator at A Better Life Foundation, which empowers those facing food insecurities.

Anushka’s advice to her fellow graduates? Embrace both the big and small victories, and remember: don’t put limits on your own potential.

One of the pieces of advice Jindal wants to share is simple: Do not put limits on your own potential. Their degrees are about to, if it hasn’t, open doors.

“I genuinely think my cohort and everyone graduating this year will change the world,” Dr. McCleary said. “That change could even start in a rural or remote community.”
