In this in-person event at The Post at 750 in Vancouver, Jason Dewinetz of the will discuss his recent efforts to carry on Jim Rimmer’s legacy of designing, engraving, and casting new metal types right here in BC. Focusing on his new typeface Orfei, Jason will explore the various technical processes involved in creating the new type, and its first use in the Greenboathouse Press edition of Crispin Elsted’s recent book, The Turn.

Jason Dewinetz is a writer, educator, typographer, printer, typecaster, and the proprietor of Greenboathouse Press in Vernon, BC. He is the only person in Canada still making new metal type, and his limited edition books have won several Alcuin Award citations over the years.

February marks both and . While these two campaigns have seemingly separate goals and purposes, they're far more linked than you might think.

We invite you to join our in-person improv workshop next week to explore how these two campaigns intersect, especially through the eyes of African diaspora communities in BC.

Taking place on Thursday February 6 from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M. downtown Vancouver (The Post at 750) this is the kick off to an interactive workshop series that - with the active co-creation of participants - will work towards the production of theatrical performances in the spring and summer of 2025.

Comics and Related Art in Ex-Yugoslavia

Cartoonist and illustrator Ivana Filipovich will guide us through the rich history of comic arts and publishing in the ex-Yugoslav region, focusing on Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, and Slovenia. Attendees will be able to flip through anthologies, graphic novels, collections, comic magazines, and other examples of work from the region.
