Mothers are the heart of Crown Preschool. For over 75 years, mothers' love, dedication, and brilliance have kept our preschool alive, offering a beautiful first experience of community for young children. Happy Mother's Day to all of our Crown Preschool mothers, past and present.

Is there a better season in preschool than fall? Beautiful leaves, plenty of puddles and, in our case, amazing neighbours who grow the heaviest pumpkin in British Columbia!

Some more photos of our beautiful outdoor days this week. They were just as joyful as they look.

When our building is unavailable because of a tv show filming, we pivot! How lucky we are to have these beautiful places so nearby, where we can have outdoor adventures together.
Although we are not focused primarily on outdoor learning, it is an approach that meshes perfectly with our play-based, relational, inquiry-led philosophy. We ARE a rain-or-shine, daily outdoor play program, which means the children and families were ready and willing to try out some full mornings outdoors. This kind of support from families is essential to successfully implementing outdoor learning in early childhood education, and we are so grateful for the trust we've been given by all of our wonderful families.
Our two mornings outdoors have brought growth, wonder, challenge and joy - everything we could have asked for! We are sure there will be more to come before our year together comes to an end.

Help us to raise the funds we need to refurbish part of our playground, and keep Crown children playing happily for many more years to come.

Often, play can be hugely enriched and extended through simple but carefully chosen additions to the environment.
A months-long interest in enclosures in this class was starting to feel "stuck". Bringing in a basic, wooden climbing frame has given the children an exciting new way of engaging with this schema, which comes with endless offshoots of learning: STEM, negotiation and compromise, language development, dramatic play... Their themes and interests are refreshed, and play continues to be the absolute best vehicle for learning and development.

Playing with light. Playing with shadows. Playing with animals. Playing together. Play is learning.
