Finally managed to get this group together for dinner • S A K U • to celebrate their performance at the Nationals Championships, and their selection to the Canadian Junior National Team to compete in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 at the Junior Pan-American Championships. I could not be prouder of this group of young athletes. We are a dojo, we are a family, we are WEST RIVER KARATE 🥋👊

Happiest of Birthday’s to our dojo’s own Sempai Jason. The best training partner, and travel buddy a Sensei could ask for. Always amazing to share a podium, the tatami, and a meal with you. Here’s to many more 🥳🎉🤣🎁🎂👊🥋

It’s been a little less than 2 weeks since the dust has settled.

Our dojo sent 4 athletes to the Karate Canada Junior National Championships in Edmonton, and came back with 6 medals, 2 golds 🥇🥇 & 4 silvers 🥈🥈🥈🥈.

West River Karate is the home of the 2025/2026 Junior Male Athlete of the Year, 2 *NEW* Canadian National Champions, and 4x Canadian National Team members 🇨🇦.

Words cannot express how proud I am of this group. They’ve worked extremely hard, through adversity, rough patches, lessons new and old, and everything else in between. Through these experiences they’ve only grown stronger, more disciplined, and more resilient. Let’s take a moment to congratulate them all.

West River Karate is repping hard day 1 of the 2026 Karate Canada Junior Nationals in Edmonton.

Katrina Lee & Kai Lim are the new reigning Canadian National Champions for the Female Junior, and Male U14 kata divisions 🥇🏆🇨🇦

After completing 8 rounds of kata, and 8 grueling rounds of kumite, Ethan Choi once again shows everyone why he’s still one of Canada’s premier karate dual athletes with double silver medal finish 🥈🥈 and a spot on the National Team roster 🇨🇦

Evan Choi finishes with a very respectable 5th place finish in the U14 male kata division. He’s only 11, and will be back to take the crown next year.

Day 1 of Nationals is over for us, but Evan and Kai will be back for day 3 on Sunday. Stay tuned for more results.

Wishing Kai Lim, Owen Choi & Veronika Kovalenko the best of luck at the 2026 BC Winter Games in Trail/Rossland this weekend.

It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially to students who have grown so much and become part of our dojo family. Oliver & Jo-Jo, watching you both develop, not just in skill, but in character, confidence, and spirit, has been an absolute privilege.

Although you’re both moving away and moving on to new chapters of your journey, you always have a home at West River Karate.

Thank you for the memories, the effort, and the heart you’ve given to your training and to our dojo. We wish you all the best in your next adventure; and we know you’ll continue to make us proud wherever life takes you. I hope you keep training hard, and never stop growing. OSSU! ❤️
