When you’re preparing to raise capital, the way you talk about your business matters. So does who’s in the room when you do.

Carlyn Loncaric, founder and CEO of Vancouver-based AquaEye - VodaSafe Inc., first took part in Pitch as a Semi-Finalist. In that room, she met AquaEye’s first investor.

Years later, after reconnecting with The Forum as a 2022/23 Odlum Brown Forum Pitch Finalist, Carlyn met AquaEye’s next lead investor through the Pitch Finale.

Along the way, mentorship helped her refine how she communicated AquaEye’s story, balancing the business case with the purpose behind the technology.

AquaEye is an AI-powered handheld sonar device designed to locate drowning victims underwater. Today, it’s used in more than 50 countries by 500+ rescue agencies, with 1,300+ units deployed for rescue operations.

AquaEye’s growth is its own. Carlyn’s Pitch story shows what can happen when a founder brings a clear business into a room with the right people around it.

This week, The Forum team joined founders, investors, and major tech innovators from over 100 countries at Web Summit Vancouver.

We learned from incredible tech leaders, reconnected with longtime friends, welcomed new faces to the community, and uncovered exciting opportunities that will help women entrepreneurs scale the businesses Canada needs.

At our activation this Thursday, we saw so many women exchange experiences, forge connections, and explore the power of building together. A huge thanks to our Director of Program Operations, Jacqueline Gilchrist for leading us through the session!

It was a week full of inspiration and momentum, and we can’t wait to apply the knowledge we’ve gained and continue impactful conversations with the leaders we had the pleasure of meeting.

The Odlum Brown Forum Pitch Finale is truly a labour of love.

If you were in the room with us last week, you saw Activation Committee Co-Chairs Jessica Green and Wendy Hartley on stage as they led us through the evening’s celebration.

Thanks to their leadership, we raised $1.52M to offer support that will change the trajectory of women entrepreneurs ready to scale.

But their roles go even deeper. Leading a devoted group of volunteers, they dedicated countless hours, energy, and heart in the lead-up to the big day, ensuring this 10th anniversary milestone had all the magic it deserved and more.
