Congrats JO Graduates of 2026!!!
It’s bittersweet but grad celebrations are here and our amazing grade 12 students have crossed the stage! We look back on your achievements and the hard work it took to get here. Every journey is different but no less worth celebrating. Cherish those friendships and memories made along the way. We hope you’ve learnt compassion, strength, growth, curiosity, and determination to take you on the next adventure. May our motto "Virtus Vincit", (or "Virtue Conquers") serve you well. Use this JO commitment to moral excellence as your compass in life.
"Your future is as bright as your dreams—go out there and shine!"

Here is a small recap of the power of the PAC…to support, to amplify, to host workshops, and share knowledge and fundraise for our school. Join the PAC and keep this Joker spirit alive and well for 2026/2027!

Dear JO Community, your PAC needs your help. Elections are ongoing with the positions of Chair & Treasurer up for grabs, among others. We can’t do it without all of our community pulling together.
The roles are not strenuous and can be shared with co-partners to lighten the load. Key items are to help spread information in monthly (or less) PAC meetings, administer gaming grants, and support in school communication. Without a fully staffed exec committee, we will lose our gaming grants! That money goes to support the school extracurricular fieldtrips, scholarships, semester turnaround events, clubs, teacher requests…plus more.

DO you love COFFEE?
Spanish students are selling 1lb bags of Organic and Fair Trade coffee, grown in the highlands of Guatemala. The coffee is produced by the Campesino Committee of the Highlands (CCDA). We have been studying this group through a novel in Spanish 11.
Price: 1lb = 454 g = $21.00 : Dark or Medium / Beans or Ground
The CCDA is a peasant and indigenous movement with more than 36 years’ experience of struggle and resistance. CCDA is active in 20 departments of the country, accompanying communities that have been repressed and dispossessed of their lands, and thus find themselves involved in conflicts related to land ownership. CCDA provides communities with political training and access to state institutions that deal with agrarian issues. Its objective is to achieve a national agrarian policy.
Café Justicia is a volunteer organization in BC that buys the coffee from the CCDA, paying them a livable wage (more than most coffee distributors can say), then sells it here in Vancouver.
If you'd like to buy some coffee, click this link or scan QR to put in your order then TELL YOUR CHILD to come to room 320 to pick it up next week. - WEEK OF June 15 - 22.

Did you make it out to the 100th Anniversary celebration for Memorial Park a few weekends back? There were some great photos and artifacts displayed by JO Legacy Society we thought you might find cool too!
Love that old memorabilia! Check out the site if they’ve piqued your interest. They've got their office right at the school. https://jolegacy.ca/
And yes, the duck pond is looking fantastic.

Hello everyone! On June 24th, at 11am, we’ll be hosting the annual Staff Appreciation Lunch.
It's time to thank our amazing staff, admin, teachers, and everyone who help keep our kids safe, engaged, and in a well run school that we love! We are asking parents to contribute if you are able and we have a spreadsheet with ideas of what you might share. We will also take your time or your cash contributions for the event.
Have a look at our spreadsheet for noting publicly what you can contribute (to avoid overlap) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1szdXOUsq_njeSz4hGq6gN0pUJRq3ZBvf/edit?gid=1593708712 =1593708712
Fill in our form to let us know directly that you will be helping so we can manage our expectations and purchase anything not volunteered yet. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfUCOoKikEwLsS13hYHXBX88VDP-9GGH1APJ8FUzws90H9Iyw/viewform

We hope you came out to see the “Lean On Me” student arts + cultural exhibit! The beautiful collaboration between John Oliver Secondary and Mackenzie Elementary was hosted in the John Oliver Library. We had a few young visitors and parents come by to connect with the big school and explore the beauty and richness of our community, through the eyes and hearts of our youth!
An enormous THANK YOU to Babette, Alex and the many parent volunteers who helped bring this event to life! What a treasure for our school and greater community! ♥️
It was a fun opportunity to have the elementary and high school kids together to collaborate!
