School trustees have an important role in shaping the educational experience of thousands of students.

When trustees understand the value of music education, they can help ensure it remains part of the conversation when important decisions are made.

You don't have to be a politician.
You don't have to be an education expert.
You just have to care about students and be willing to serve your community.

If you believe music education matters, consider running for school trustee.

The VEAES has released an important statement on the elementary music cuts in Vancouver. Please take a moment and read!

“Four elementary schools have lost their music programs entirely, while an additional nineteen have experienced substantial reductions in instructional time. These cuts represent a significant departure from previous commitments by trustees to revitalize music education. Many classroom teachers do not have the specialized training required to deliver comprehensive music instruction, and students will ultimately bear the cost of losing access to qualified specialists.”

The Surrey School District is refusing to come to the table to discuss solutions for offering Band 7 once again. Students and community members are frustrated. Please lend them your voice and speak up for music education by coming to the Surrey District Education Centre on May 13 at 6:30pm. Bring your instruments!!!

Fred Penner, beloved Canadian icon and musician, voiced his concerns and opposition to music cuts in our province by asking SD61 to “find whatever funding is needed to maintain music in the schools.” I hope the SD61 decision-makers listening! In his words “Never underestimate your ability to make a difference in the life of a child.” This happens by keeping ALL music options in schools.
