Interdisciplinary Learning: One theme. Every subject. Real learning.
Children don’t experience the world one subject at a time. So we don’t believe learning should always happen that way either.
At Pear Tree, our interdisciplinary approach brings subjects together through meaningful themes and real-world questions. A single project might ask students to use science to investigate, math to analyse, literacy to communicate, technology to create, and design to turn ideas into something tangible.
The result is learning that is connected, purposeful and memorable.
Students aren’t simply completing a math lesson, a writing assignment or a science activity in isolation. They’re learning when and why to use those skills — and how different areas of knowledge work together to help us understand and engage with the world.
And while the learning is engaging, the academics remain rigorous. Students research, calculate, write, problem-solve, collaborate, revise, present and reflect throughout the process.
Because the goal isn’t simply to help students know more.
It’s to help them think deeply, make connections and use what they know.
That’s what interdisciplinary learning looks like at Pear Tree.
