You can memorize a lot for board exams.

But if you don’t understand why something is the answer, it’s much harder to apply when the question changes.

That’s one of the big goals behind our CBER Video Lectures with Taylor James (TJ) Laviolette, RMT:

To help future RMTs move beyond memorization and build the kind of understanding that actually holds up under pressure.

Clear explanations. Stronger reasoning. Better exam prep.

If you’ve ever thought:
“I know I studied this… so why isn’t it clicking?”
this is exactly the kind of support CBER is built for.

You can memorize a lot for board exams.

But when the material actually makes sense, everything gets easier to connect.

That’s what we hear again and again from students learning with TJ:

“Why did no one explain it to me like that before?”
“That makes so much sense now!”

Our CBER video lectures were built to break difficult material down clearly, explain the reasoning behind it, and help future RMTs understand what they’re learning — not just collect more facts to memorize.

We hear “hurt does not equal harm” all the time in pain education.

But Monica Noy asks a more uncomfortable question:

What exactly are we claiming when we say it?

What do we mean by harm?
What evidence supports the premises?
Does the idea apply equally across different kinds of pain?
And how much uncertainty should we actually tolerate when reasoning with an individual patient?

This isn’t a quick “here’s the answer” article.

It’s an invitation to investigate the argument.

From the Library 🎥

One of the things we care deeply about at The MT Network is making sure important clinical topics are taught by people whose work we genuinely trust.

This archived lecture features Susan Shipton, an experienced RMT and educator whose teaching focuses on oncology massage — helping clinicians think more clearly and confidently about working with people affected by cancer and cancer treatment.

It’s a thoughtful, practical addition to the growing MT Network Monthly library, and exactly the kind of resource we want our members to be able to return to when they need it.

Because careful curation matters.

When we say carefully curated, we don’t only mean established names.

Meet Emily Walker — exercise physiologist, researcher, educator, and one of the voices we’re very excited to have inside The MT Network Monthly.

Emily is a PhD candidate at UNSW and Neuroscience Research Australia, where her research focuses on improving care for people with chronic low back pain. She also works clinically and teaches at UNSW, with a particular interest in bringing social determinants of health and health equity into evidence-based care.

Her lecture is already waiting for you From the Library inside The MT Network Monthly.

Because good evidence matters.

And so does whether the care we build from it is actually accessible, meaningful, and realistic.

“Why did no one explain it to me like that before?”

We hear versions of this from students a lot.

And that’s exactly what we want from our CBER Video Lectures.

Board exam prep shouldn’t just give you another pile of facts to memorize. TJ’s goal is to break difficult material down, connect it to what you already know, and explain the why behind the answer — so the pieces actually start fitting together.

Difficult concepts. Clear explanations.
Board exam prep that helps the pieces connect.

Does manual therapy help tension-type headaches?

Maybe.

But the more interesting question might be:

Does the evidence tell us that one particular technique is the answer?

Tristan Attenborough unpacks a scoping review of 33 studies examining a remarkably wide range of manual therapy approaches.

There are some encouraging findings for short-term pain intensity and frequency.

But one clearly superior technique?

Not so much.

And that distinction matters.

This is exactly what we want our research reviews to do: not just tell you what a paper says, but help you think about what the evidence can — and can’t — support.

One of the best parts of building The MT Network Monthly is getting to bring educators like Bronnie Lennox Thompson into the room.

Here’s a tiny excerpt from Bronnie’s session on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy — thoughtful, practical teaching from someone who has spent decades working in pain management and helping clinicians think differently about persistent pain.

The full lecture is waiting for you From the Library inside The MT Network Monthly, alongside 12+ months of expert lectures and research reviews.

This one might ruffle a few feathers.

Many of us were taught to assess sacral torsions. To palpate them. Name them. Treat them.
But there’s a pretty important question underneath all of that:

Can we actually identify them reliably?

TJ takes a look at what the research says about palpation, SIJ testing, reliability and clinical usefulness — and why being willing to let go of an unsupported idea is a strength, not a failure.

Because evidence-based practice sometimes means learning something new.

And sometimes it means unlearning something old.
