10 years of SoM Edmonton!

Last week, we celebrated 10 years of SoM in Edmonton at MacEwan University. SoM Edmonton started as an idea from our incredible Board Member, Ashif Mawji, and it's now grown to be a "home away from home" for over 200 students every year. To all the students and staff in Edmonton, thank you for being part of our journey! Here's to many more years ✨

And just like that, SoM classes are done for the year! We’re doing sound checks this week, so our regular classes look a little different.

We had the most amazing time with everyone this year, and cannot wait to celebrate all of you next week at our Year End Concerts!

Our students had the opportunity to perform at a Fire in Your Kitchen event alongside !

We’re so grateful to be part of this partnership, where SoM young artists gets to share the joy of music alongside the incredible talents of firefighters off duty as chefs, all in support of youth in our community!

This evening featured members of our SoM Jazz Band, who welcomed guests with live music as they arrived. Prince and Nirvana came on after to serenade the room during the opening part of the meal. Cannot wait for more!

A message to the SoM teaching artists and staff on Teacher Appreciation Day! We’re so thankful for your leadership and joy.

There are over 30 teaching artists across all three locations. This video highlights just a portion of the staff.

All of our choir and musical theatre students came together for one magical evening! Over 100 students were on stage for the final song, Lean on Me!

There’s something powerful about a room filled with young voices - especially when over 100 Sarah McLachlan School of Music students come together as one.

It’s moments like our 3rd Annual SoM Group Singing Night that remind us why investing in music education matters. From our junior to senior choirs, these students aren’t just learning to sing, they’re building confidence, community, and a lifelong connection to the arts.

Here’s to the next generation of artists - and to the spaces that help them find their voice. ❤️ XoS
