Reach for the Sky - An After School Outdoors Academy

Reach for the Sky is an outdoors after school program for kids ages 5-10 years old. Rain or shine, we provide children with outdoor activity and adventure to educate them on the environment, our Westcoast ecosystem and the importance of taking care of the planet. We believe that being outside is key for a child’s holistic health and growth and we do this through our program which provides a safe and community focused environment for them to learn and grow in.
SUMMARY
The Activity Leader is responsible for creating a safe and fun outdoor learning environment for a pod of 3-7 students they are overseeing. They will be teaching and supporting each child through outdoor discovery and learning.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively interact with students, building a fun and safe relationship with each one.
Create a fun and positive atmosphere for each child to feel comfortable in.
Teach a different lesson every day, focused on the westcoast environment (supervisors will supply all materials and curriculum).
Pick up each child after school at the beginning of the program and meet parents for pick up.
REQUIREMENTS
Successful candidates will be available to work 2:45pm-5:30pm, Mondays and Wednesdays, on school days, with the exception of statutory holidays
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
High School Graduate Diploma, certificate or degree in the areas of early childhood development or teaching is an asset.
Motivated, enthusiastic, flexible attitude and an ability to work as a team player
Enjoy being outside in the rain or shine
Able to teach with confidence and lead with integrity
Previous experience working with children
Strong organizational, and communication skills.

Happy holidays everyone!

It may be cold and rainy this week, but that hasn't stopped us from having fun and creating some amazing outdoor adventures! A favourite was the maze created by the kids with sticks and branches. 🌳💦🌱

Creating bouquets with pipe cleaners. Building a bug hotel out of twigs, dirt and rocks. Making a story board out of leaves and flower petals. Just some of the fun we are having over here!

Enjoying a sunny afternoon at Tatlow Park - creating boats out of natural materials. Imagination. Creativity. Outdoors.

This week was full of outdoor play and learning. We talked about clouds, the importance of rocks and why leaves change colours. And then played. A lot!

We are excited to be starting our after school program THIS Monday! We will be running the program at several Vancouver schools including - let the outdoor fun begin!
