During his time as School Director, School of Communication professor Stuart Poyntz () worked to rebuild the School’s community as people returned to campus. He also oversaw major renovations and the School’s 50th anniversary celebration.

“I would describe myself for a very long time as being an institution builder. I’m invested in the idea that there are key places, like the School of Communication, for people to gather in, lead from and learn from,” says Poyntz.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!

Are you interested in combatting the climate crisis? This volunteer opportunity is a chance to contribute to research on climate change coverage in news media.

We're looking for volunteers to help conduct a content analysis of climate crisis and election coverage in British Columbia broadcasting. This project builds upon the report, Quiet Alarm: A Review of CBC’s Climate Reporting which was produced by SFU CERi in collaboration with the Climate Emergency Unit. The goal of this research is to provide evidence on the strengths and weaknesses of election reporting as it relates to the climate crisis in Canada.

No previous research experience is necessary (the project will provide some simple training), but we are looking for people who are willing and available to systematically watch or listen to a broadcast show over one month during the B.C. provincial elections this fall, from Sept 21 to Oct 19. Volunteers will carefully track the show’s climate reporting. If you think you can make that kind of time commitment, we’d welcome your help.

The deadline to sign up to volunteer is September 9, 2024.

Apply now! https://www.sfu.ca/ceri/job-postings/volunteer-opportunities.html
