Welcome to the first edition of Friday Favourites! Every Friday I'll round up a few of my favourite things for teachers, with everything from classroom essentials to self-care must-haves!
This week, I'm bringing you my 8 teacher must-haves for back to school! Check out the post with all links here: https://teachmefrenchie.ca/8-best-teacher-must-haves-for-back-to-school/
1. A well-structured planner:
Every teacher needs a planner, whether it be a digital one or a physical one. This one from Happy Planner is my absolute favourite as it is geared towards teachers.
2. iPad Pencil:
If a digital planner is more your speed, then this iPad pencil is a must! I use this exact one with my iPad and it has been so easy to use and set up. It pairs easily with your iPad or tablet.
3. iPad Case:
If you use an iPad at school like I do, then you'll want to make sure you cover it. This iPad case is great because it's not bulky and has a cover that converts into a stand.
4. Laptop Case:
I just got a new laptop over the summer and I had to cover it to protect it from everyday wear and tear. This cover is great because it has a slim profile and snaps easily on to your laptop.
5. Tote Bag:
I've been wanting a Marc Jacobs tote bag for some time but just can't bring myself to spend the $$$, especially when it's a school/work bag. This one is a great dupe and looks almost identical to the real thing.
6. Tote Bag Organizer:
This tote organizer has been a game changer for me! It has literally helped me stay organized (and find my keys more easily, lol).
7. Stanley Tumbler Dupe:
I finally caved and jumped on the Stanley tumbler bandwagon this year. If you're not ready to drop so much on a mug, then this tumbler is the next best thing.
8. Stanley Travel Mug:
Just a peek into my kitchen cupboards and you'll see I have a sincere love of travel mugs (it may be getting a little out of hand, lol). It keeps my coffee warm for hours, and looks great too!

There's one thing I always tell my own kids: if you can be anything in this world, be kind. I try to teach them to embrace the beauty of compassion, empathy, and understanding - always.
In the classroom, I believe that kindness can shine brighter than any star in the sky! From helping a friend to offering a warm smile, we need to teach our kiddos that simple acts of kindness can create a magical and caring environment for everyone to thrive. So, let's all sprinkle kindness like confetti and watch the world around us bloom with love and positivity. đâ¨

For our students in early french immersion, having a solid understanding of letter names and sounds in french is important, especially for students in kindergarten and grade 1. This is because letter sound knowledge lays the ground work for essential reading and writing skills. It also:
â¨Builds phonemic awareness
â¨Enhances reading skills
â¨Improves writing skills
â¨Helps in learning new vocabulary
â¨Builds confidence in learning French

â¨Need something to curb the boredom in those early days in the classroom? Then take the learning outside! You'd be surprised how much you can do outside the classroom walls.
â¨Whether it's storytime under a tree, sight word practice in the dirt, or a nature scavenger hunt, your kids will love getting outside.

Instead of fixating on what a student canât do, itâs important to celebrate what they can and meet them where theyâre at! â¨This can mean teaching to their needs, abilities, and interests. How can we do that?
1ď¸âŁ Differentiated instruction: By offering a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and activities, we can ensure each student can engage with the content in a way that shuts them best. Of course this may not be possible for all classroom activities but should be for the core subjects and lessons.
2ď¸âŁ Personalized learning: Create opportunities for students to pursue their interests and explore topics that resonate with them. By providing choice, we tap into their intrinsic motivation and increase engagement. In the classroom, this can be in the form of learning stations, choice boards, passion projects and learning journals.
3ď¸âŁ Individualized support: Provide targeted support to students who require additional assistance (as a special education/resource teacher this is often where I come in). Whether one on one instruction, small group work, or targeted interventions, we can help address their specific learning needs and help them progress.
Every child has unique strengths and talents waiting to shine, so why not fuel their passion and abilities? Remember, itâs not about limitations but about the amazing potential that lies within each and every student!
