Institute faculty member Arno Kamolika presents an introductory lecdem on Manipuri dance this month!

Have you ever experienced the history and artistry of Indian Classical Dance? Join us and for an afternoon of discovery and movement!

We are honoured to present Intro to Indian Classical Dance: Manipuri with Arno Kamolika

Manipuri dance rises from Manipur like a living poem, where every movement flows with quiet grace and devotion.
It brings to life the divine love of Krishna and Radha, weaving rhythm, emotion, and storytelling into a mesmerizing performance.

Arno Kamolika, who began her dance career as a student and practitioner of Manipuri dance, will walk us through her personal journey in dance through demonstration and discussion.

Come for a short live performance and a rich conversation about where this dance comes from, what it means, and how it moves. No background in dance required, just an open mind!

What are we reading next at Buddhi Book Club? 📚

We’re excited to resume our bi-weekly reading discussions starting May 4th, and we warmly invite you to join us!

The Buddhi Book Club, an initiative of the Kalāvāṇī Institute, is a space for meaningful dialogue and knowledge-sharing centred around books on Indian classical music and dance. We're now diving into our fifth book, 'Balasaraswati: Her Art and Life' 🎶

Balasaraswati was a passionate revolutionary, an entirely modern artist whose impact was proclaimed by some of the most prominent figures in contemporary dance in India and the West. Her art and life defined the heart of a tradition. Her life story offers an extraordinary view of the enigmatic matrilineal devadasi community and traditional artistic practice from which modern South Indian dance styles have emerged.
