What is this study about?
The goal of the study is to assess the effects of cannabis oil in individuals who use recreational cannabis.
Who can participate?
You may be able to participate if you:
· Have no major physical or mental health diagnoses
· Used oral cannabis at least twice in the past month.
Additional screening will be completed via phone interview
What does my participation involve?
The study involves taking cannabis oil during three sessions and completing MRI scans, computer tasks, questionnaires, and biological samples. If you participate, you will attend 5 in-person sessions and complete a daily survey at home for approximately 24 hours. You will receive a paid honorarium and an image of your brain for your participation.

The UBC B.R.A.I.N. lab is looking for participants for a clinical trial to 𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗰𝘆𝗯𝗶𝗻-𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗹 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 (𝗔𝗨𝗗). The preliminary trial results concerning this therapy have been encouraging and no serious adverse effects have been observed.
The trial will enroll individuals with alcohol dependence. Current alcohol consumption should be heavy to qualify for the Study. The total 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟵 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟯 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀.
During the trial, the investigational product will be taken twice, one month apart (a total of two doses). Enrolled subject will receive either the investigational product or a placebo that does not contain the active drug. Once the investigational product has been administered, subjects will remain at the trial site for observation for approximately eight hours before returning home with their caregiver. In addition to receiving the investigational product, all subjects will participate in a motivational enhancement therapy program during the trial. Motivational interviews alone are known to have potential positive effects on reducing alcohol consumption.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗳:
• You are over 19 years old
• You have alcohol dependence
• You use alcohol almost daily and in large amounts
• You wish to decrease the number of occasions on which you drink and/or the number of alcohol units you consume
• You do not use narcotics, Antabuse, naltrexone or mood-altering medications and you do not have hepatitis or liver or kidney failure or serious heart problems and you do not suffer from major depression
• It is possible for you to arrange a caregiver to accompany you for 24 hours after the drug administration
• You are not pregnant.
The investigational product is free of charge. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed and you will be compensated for your time.

The UBC Behavioral Reward, Affect, and Impulsivity Neuroscience (B.R.A.I.N.) Lab is looking for bright, hardworking student volunteers, with interests in mental health and its treatments, to
assist with a research project investigating psilocybin-assisted therapy for treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder.
Successful candidates will be working directly with patients with Alcohol Use Disorder and with the team of clinicians involved in the Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy. This is a unique opportunity for a research assistant to get to work hands on in an innovative phase-II
clinical trial in the field of psychedelics and substance use disorders.
Tasks may include recruiting participants for research, leading screening procedures, collecting and entering data,
and assisting with coordination and administrative duties. One position is currently available We welcome applicants with special interests in working in psychedelic research and/or
substance use disorders.
Requirements:
• At least 1-year of previous experience working in a lab, preferably with direct coordination experience or experience working with patients directly
• Able to provide a strong reference from a former academic/research supervisor or course professor
• Interest in psychology, psychiatry, medicine, or neuroscience
• Must be available for 15 hours per week over the next 12 months with reasonable weekday availability
This is an opportunity best suited for those looking to strengthen their involvement and training experiences related to mental health. Ideal candidates are individuals who are considering or planning to pursue graduate school in a related field.
