Some photos of our K-9 students and their work that was showcased at our Art Gala yesterday evening! Our students were full of excitement while showing their families what they and their classmates created. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–Œ

It was fantastic to be able to invite Westside families and the public into our school to view the talents our students have to offer and experience an evening of appreciation for Kindergarten to Grade 12's work.

Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to join us and we hope you enjoyed the evening just as much as we did! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Also, a big congratulations to Jonathan from Grade 9 for winning the Treasure Hunt at the Art Gala!

If you were not able to make it, feel free to drop in today during our Open House, Wednesday the 1st of June, between 9am-3pm, to see our student's creations for yourself! ๐Ÿซ

We have had a great past two days at BC Place! ๐Ÿ˜Š

On Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, our Grade 2-9 students had the fantastic opportunity to use the field as their own personal playground! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿคธ

Our Grade 2-7 students took part in a rotation of activities while our Grade 8 & 9 students played a soccer match using the full field. โšฝ๏ธ

A big thank you to BC Place from all of us at Westside for giving us this opportunity! Our students and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and can now all say they played soccer at BC Place! ๐Ÿ˜†

From May 10th-18th, our Kindergarten - Grade 7 students took part in workshops run by UBC Geering Up! This organisation are on a mission to educate British Columbia's youth on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through fun workshops. ๐Ÿ˜„

Kindergarten - Ecosystems Everywhere
Our Kindergarten students learned about the fundamentals of living things through various games and explored the basics of life by building their very own biodome! They also created seed balls from just newspaper, water and seeds to be taken home and planted. ๐ŸŒฑ

Grade 1 - Amazing Bots
In this workshop, students learned all about the components of a robot and guided their mini Ozobot robot to complete tasks! They drew a course for their mini robots to follow, with some students getting adventurous and writing their own names or abstract shapes! ๐Ÿค–

Grades 2 & 3 - Emotion Detector
Technology is a vital part of how we communicate today and in this workshop, students used technology to communicate by programming an online micro-bit simulator to express different emotions, as well as creating musical melodies! ๐ŸŽผ

Grades 4 & 5 - Scratch Dino Run
Programming is all around us and is used to build all the games we love to play! Using Scratch, students learned to use code and their creativity to create their very own interactive game. Starting off with the basics of choosing their character, to then ending up with a playable game! ๐ŸŽฎ

Grades 6 & 7 - Manufacturing Pioneers
In this workshop, students explored the world of biomedical engineers and their role in designing prosthetics. Students learned the fundamentals of working organs and applied their creativity to design challenges. They were given time to let their creative freedom flow and create their own 3D designs. ๐Ÿ’ป

Westside would like to thank Marcus and Anna from UBC's Geering Up for being teachers and mentors to our students during these workshops! ๐Ÿ˜Š

So much excitement at our Beatty campus for Jeans Day! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ‘–

This annual event is to raise money for the BC Children's Hospital. The purpose is to 'make jeans a symbol of something much bigger - helping kids get out of their hospital gowns and back into their jeans'! By coming together, making donations and wearing our jeans, we can all help to conquer the illnesses that affect our province's kids.

You can still donate to this cause through the link below! ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŒŽInternational Day at our Miniversity campus on Friday๐ŸŒŽ

Here are some great pictures of our students attending our school's International Day last week and learning all about different countries and cultures! ๐Ÿ˜„

It is incredibly beneficial for children to be taught about different countries and cultures in order for them to appreciate the world around them. Building their knowledge on the history of the world's countries helps them acknowledge, appreciate and understand our diverse and beautiful earth! ๐ŸŒณ
