Potty or toilet? 🚽❓
There are situations where it makes sense to choose one over the other - let your learner’s comfort and preference be the main deciding factor! ✅

My new book, The Autism Potty Training Parent Handbook, covers this topic and about a million more!

Hey, it’s pretty much every tip I’ve ever shared on Instagram - in book form! 🎉

The Autism Potty Training Parent Handbook lays out an evidence-based, step-by-step method, with lots of ways to customize for your kid.

It covers everything from knowing when to get started to poop-specific challenges to overnight training to generalizing to school/childcare.

It’s packed with info and is legitimately fun to read! 🥳 I mean, I think so, anyway 😆

This is a vicious rumour I wish would simply DIE, tbh 😵💀😈

It’s really not necessary to wait for kids to be uncomfortable in a soiled diaper to get started (and have success!!) with toilet learning. There is no research to support this myth. 🦄

Sure, it’s nice if they have that added motivation to ditch the diaper, but in the research on toileting skill acquisition for kids with developmental disabilities is clear - they REALLY don’t need to be there before starting toilet learning in order to have success.

If you’re seeing some toileting success at home, it’s time to take the show on the road! My best tip is to create sameness between the environments as best you can. 🚗 🚽
