Artists, join us for The Incubator Series!
Throughout this season, we will hold a series of panels that offer an exploration and dissection of some of the current ideas, issues, and ideologies linked to being a theatre artist right now. These discussions will give artists an opportunity to learn from their colleagues, ask questions, speak their minds, and to feel supported and inspired by their peers. The Incubator Series is a place of gathering, collaboration, and inspiration—where ideas begin and flourish.
Held at the BMO Theatre Centre, each panel discussion is curated and hosted by a local professional theatre artist. All events are FREE, but registration is required.

Ensemble work – creating together as a cohesive and diverse group, could be personally rewarding and artistically invigorating.
Working as an ensemble in a devised theatre setting means that the group will create an original show, collaboratively. All participants are equal in the group, and each member is invited to take on various and multiple roles: actor, director, writer, designer, and more. The group will also collectively make artistic decisions regarding the show – what will be the show’s name? Narrative? Visual style?
In that form of creation, there’s room for multiple opinions, and the interests, ideas and skills of the various members of the group can complement each other, creating a rich pool of opportunities; one member might create a character, and another member might have a great idea for the world in which that character lives in. Then someone else might find a piece of music that will help in creating that world, and so on and so forth.
It’s challenging at times – compromises must be made. Every member has to balance taking space and giving space to others. But when the process is done in a way where each member of the ensemble comes to the space with respect and curiosity; for the process, for their own creativity and for others – something beautiful can happen -- in the rehearsal hall, and on stage.

FREE workshop for youth—The Artistry of Choice!
As actors, we are constantly making choices about how to deliver a line, how to physically embody a character, or how to react to our partner on stage. The question is, “How do we do that?” How can we better trust and follow our impulses and commit to our choices? How do we navigate the balance between owning our ideas and honouring our partner’s offers? How do we reflect and assess so that the scene can grow throughout rehearsals and performances? Each choice presents another opportunity to discover something new about the work.
Young actors ages Ages 13-18 are invited to join us in this free workshop, offered by the Arts Club in collaboration with Arts Umbrella, as part of the Master Workshop Series.
